Carfax just tells you if the car has been hit or repaired.

It doesn't tell you if all the services were done as required.
Incorrect friend.

carfax can track service records
and other data likes sales dates and locations and such if the vehicle is pre owned. It can actually track a LOT of data. But the basics it does are accidents and repairs.

I use the carfax app for my vehicles. I was told by an acquaintance in car sales that because shops use carfax, if you maintain a good carfax record you can use that as a bargaining point for selling. I successfully did this when we sold our grand Cherokee to carmax. I got them to add an extra $1,500 to their offer because i could verifiably show service records..including home oil changes w/receipts. They loved it.

just food for thought
That’s a sound idea if people you buy from actually go places and get it serviced somewhere

Yea. It definitely takes either shops input or voluntary user input to be useful. Thankfully I listened to that fella and it paid off. Im also fortunate that most local shops to me seem to enter data to carfax without me even needing to ask. Saves me from taking pics of the service records and manually adding them.

It can't track service done at independent shops or if its done by the owner. It can only track dealer services.

If Carfax accepts manual entry from people, what is to keep someone from pencil whipping a CarFax maintenance report.

Either way, there are better ways to confirm service history than car fax.

I just feel like more people would abuse Jeeps more than any other type of vehicle so that’s another reason why I’d be more hesitant on buying a used gladiator or wrangler.

Here are some screenshots of my carfax app. It tracks a lot of data that any dealer can see, and also use if they buy the jeep from me. So it’s more than just accidents and basic repairs or recalls. Its really pretty cool once you fart around with their app. Any service you manually enter you can upload receipts and such.

im sure people can, and will, be dishonest with it. But its a good tool for bargaining a sale and or learning about a vehicle you’re interested in.

what other stuff is out there for tracking and verifying records? I had success with carfax but im all about adding tools to the tool box if i have to sell at some point.

Some do, some don't. There's no requirement. Independents often don't. Dealers often do.

For Jeep vehicles, you can add the records to your "garage" online. You can see what the dealer has entered, and you can enter your own maintenance records.
The miles, the date, what was done, all in the Jeep account online. I can track both of our Jeeps in there.

IF and only if the shop participates and enters it all. I posted a couple of times here where one state checked into how accurate carfax was and found vehicles that had been wrecked and no record in carfax, others have found inaccurate date - minor repairs entered as if major.
It's a tool but be careful........ just because it comes up clean on carfax doesn't mean the car was never in a major accident. There is no law, no rule, insurance companies and law enforcement do not required it. It's 100% voluntary.

In the jeep app?
I like that app but I swear it either hates me or just hates my jeeps. It just randomly logs me out all the time and then tells me my password is incorrect over and over

I've bought a mix of new or used. Last summer, I bought a used loaded 2020 Overland with 5k miles. Runs like a bat... almost 25k on it now.

This will be my second ever new car purchase. At 60 years of age. First was a 2000 F-150.
Always been kinda budget conscious.
Guess that’s all out the door with a Gladiator!
I got mine summer 2020 just before the pandemic wrecked the auto industry, i.e.: back when you could still haggle over vehicles sitting on the lot. People asked me, "Did you get a good deal on it?" And in honesty I had to tell them, "No, but I wanted it and I like it and I can afford it."

That there is a genuine thingamabob, very expensive adds 2 or 3.17 to the overall value of the truck.

And in a few weeks, a month or three, my current JT will be on a dealer lot for sale and someone will get a Gladiator that's ready to go, runs smooth, runs strong, no misfires, oil changes more frequently than needed, get in and drive it. Steers and handles just fine.

People asked me, "Did you get a good deal on it?" And in honesty I had to tell them, "No, but I wanted it and I like it and I can afford it."
It must be a "Jeep thing" - trying to out-do the other guy, get a better deal than the next guy, then brag about it or asking who got a better deal, what did you pay as if comparing, well.........
Who gives a crap. If you like it, buy it if you can afford it. Doesn't hurt to ask how or where to get a better deal, but the thing about "I got 10% under FWP - did anyone else do better"...............

By the way - the local grocery stores now have milk at about $4/gallon. I got a gallon at Menards for 3 bucks!
