Alright, just got my Gladiator and about to start buying parts soon. First time buying a bumper, and have never actually purchased a winch before. Yes, I have used a winch, but limited experience. If you suggest a certain bumper, please also include anything to consider about winches with that bumper, such as if there are any limitations or things you wish you'd known before you bought yours.

I haven't really narrowed it down yet. Been looking at 100 pictures of bumpers. I know I'll need a stubby bumper to clear the tires I'll be running, and I like some of what Motobilt has on their site. Kind of torn about whether or not to run a bull bar. I don't want to render the front camera completely useless. I also like the frame chop style stubby bumpers, just not sure I want to commit to it. It's 50/50. I should probably also consider keeping it "light" since I have the diesel engine.

Just for starters, here's a link to what Motobilt offers for JT front bumpers. If you have one of them, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks.

I went with Addictive Desert Designs, US Company, Made in Arizona. Their support was amazing, and the front and rear bumpers went on with no cussing, grinding or bolts breaking.

Here's a link to their Gladiator Stubby

I went with the Stealth Mid length for mine.

I love Rock Hard products. I have their mid-width aluminum front bumper but they make a stubby one too and both are available in aluminum or steel. The aluminum mid-width weighs less than the plastic one from the factory.

So with the Tomahawk, you have to cut the frame and then weld on the bumper. Its not a simple bolt on.

But for me, when I've been looking at stubbies. I had three requirements. To have a true recessed/hidden winch mount and built in fog light pockets and most importantly, American made.

Yeah, I am aware of the frame chop for the Motobilt Tomahawk and the Artec “High clearance front bumper.” Both can be bolted on. You don’t have to weld on the Tomahawk.

I second this. My rock hard bumper has been great. Integrated skid plate that even works with the Mojave. Winch sets below grill and behind bumper so is well protected and doesn’t impede air flow.

The airflow has been a thing I’m wondering about with winche and large round lights mounted in front of the grille. I have the diesel and I’ve read at certain times people have experienced an issue with too much heat that causes a temporary derating of power.

Here is how it sits on mine. I actually have the mid width but they make a stubby as well.
