I was warned it might happen.

Hi. I'm your official new Jeep guy from Quebec, Canada. Hello.

So yeah. Hum...Just got my 2DR 6MT Willys. When I say "just got it", I mean...4 days ago.

And yeah...my wife really likes it. Even more than I love it, I think.

So...hum...she's offered me to sell her Mazda and just take my Willys bills. And put the car under her name.

To be clear, she "gently" decided to take my car. Happy wife, happy life, I guess.

THAT BEING SAID...That means I can shop around for a Gladiator. That's right, folks: I might end up buying two Jeeps in 4 months. Yup!...Oh boy, owtch, my bank account.

So, i'm doing a ton of kilometers every year because I live far in the country and I think EcoDiesel might be the way to go.

I know oil changes are crazy expensive but other than that and DEF fluid, is there anything else I should take into account?

Note: Diesel is much cheaper than petrol in Quebec.
Note 2: I'd go for an Overland trim since there's no heated steering or seat in the Sport S trim and we live in a snowball.

I'd recommend checking this thread out regarding if you should purchase a diesel to save money: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ke-diesel-engine-mpg-to-pay-for-itself.32558/

The short of it, is there's no financial gain for having a diesel... but the amount of joy it can bring cannot be matched (except by maybe throwing in a Hemi).
Thanks, I saw that thread indeed. But the rough math ain't working in Quebec since diesel is much cheaper here (it's actually the other way around for us).

If I do the same rough maths, with the kilometers i'm doing every year, I pay it back in roughly 4 years and a half (oil changes and DEF included).

I know, we're lucky bastards. :)

Honestly, in that case... it would be a no-brainer. I went from a 3.6 JT to the diesel, and I won't ever go back, diesel prices, DEF, emissions, oil changes be damned! ?

Wow! The only way I could be happier for you is if I could be your 30 yr old son living in the basement rent free with no chores and given the extra FOB’s to both Jeeps. Just plz make sure the tops come off on both Pop!

You'll probably laugh at this one. Right now, just before I got the Willys, I owned an AWD CX-30 for roughly a year. Good car, does what it has to do, but boring a hell on the long run.

Before that, I had a s*** ton of VW Golfs. All of them. A 2016 MK7 Golf R, a 2013 MK6 GTI, another MK5 GTI.

The VW I miss the most: my '94 Jetta TD. That one was a war machine and was alive until the frame couldn't take it anymore. That torque, that engine rumble, that fuel economy. Man, I miss it so much.

A guy from California actually bought that TD for the engine and the transmission. He told me he'd swap it in a Westfalia. I wonder if he really did it. A manual diesel Westfalia, great idea.

So I guess what I want to know is: putting aside the little hassles of the FIAT diesel, am I shooting myself in the foot getting that engine? Or will that diesel feel like I finally reconnect with a good old friend?

Also didn't realize you couldn't get the Cold Weather Group package in Canada... Odd!

I know the last generation of EcoDiesel got a bad rap due to it's lack of reliability. However, this new generation has been redesigned, so maybe they learned something from the previous generation and what not to do for this one.

I'm not too worried about what will happened post-warranty--I didn't buy a Jeep with the long term in mind, otherwise I'd be in a Honda/Toyota.

We can get the cold weather package, but not in the Sport S trim. You have to get the Overland. I raised an eyebrow to this one too...

I also could've gone for a Passport (that one really came close to a deal) or a 4Runner...but hey. Convertible truck? Come on, beat that.
