Hood Deflector Clip Broke

So because I have some time off for Christmas I decided to install my Mopar hood air deflector. Part number 82215367AB. When I went to tighten the screw on the right side the clip that is put in the hole to hold the attachment point broke. The little tiny tab broke off. I figured I can't be the only one this has happened to. Or am I? I already sent an email to the folks that sold me the air deflector. I'm guessing they won't be in for a few days. In case that doesn't work does anyone know where else this can be ordered from?

That is a pretty specialized clip and I doubt it is obtainable separately from MOPAR as it is probably made by a third party for MOPAR. If you can figure out the OEM maker and contact them, you may get some help.

You may want to see if you can get the whole kit swapped out on warranty as a "material defect".

I'll look at that but the part is already attached to the truck. The tab broke as I was starting the screw on it (not even tightening it). And I already threw the shipping boxes out. They are in the dumpster outside and I'm not dragging them back in. ? If worse comes to worse I'll figure something out. Like a small screw through the tab hole to a rectangle of plastic would work. As a clamp. I'd rather get a new clip but Jeeps are a good place to practice "Havana engineering".

Interesting that they decided to make that style of mount. I've had 2 different types of hood deflector and they were both just 3m tape mounted.

It's one of the reasons I bought the deflector; that it was mounted by screws. I figured that would be better. Why, I'm not sure but I grew up in the days that tape was crappy. Maybe I had no faith in tape due to the 1970s tape technology being insufficient. But you did give me an idea. That mount could probably work with double sided mounting tape. Of the modern variety. Currently, as of two hours ago, I have more faith in tape than hardened steel mounting clips. ?

Like @GOCAMPN said, most everybody else uses 3M double sided tape. I have had the Bushwacker hood deflector on my last 4 Jeeps and they all have held well with the 3M tape. You are really the first post I have seen of somebody with the MOPAR OEM deflector.

I had the same problem even made a post about it. Couldn't find anywhere online. I contacted place i bought it from and they sent me another clip. I searched high and low for something similar with no luck

Well, if nothing else now I feel better that I wasn't the only person ever since the beginning of time who bought the Mopar version of the wind deflector. ?

And I did email the folks I bought it from. Hopefully they can help. But the 3M tape solution is tempting.

3M VHB tapes have come a long way over the years. They make it for all different substrates and applications. It can have an extremely strong bond, particularly when used in combination with the appropriate 3M adhesion promoter.

I became a big fan of it years ago when I learned that it was not only used for things like rivetless trailer wall applications and commercial bus panels, but also for attaching window glazing in skyscrapers.

Although I've used generic local store bought 3M VHB tapes, I've also ordered specific tapes for specialty projects that were designed more for my application (based on substrate).

I know of some people who have barge boards (sideskirts) mounted on track cars using only (the proper) 3M VHB tape and adhesion promoter without issue.

I have one.
And while I didn’t break a clip, I had to file on them a bit to get them to fit in the holes.
I didn’t want to use tape, as I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep it.

Naw, he's not..............

I have that MOPAR deflector. I can't recall the exact attachment piece appearance right now - long day, getting late, holiday visits and eating 12,000 calories and all.......

I'll have to search my stash of body and trim parts, who knows, I've got thousands and thousands of clips, clip nuts, and more in drawers, cans, jars, whatever.

I didn’t want to use tape, as I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep it.

I don't like the tape - yeah, sure, it works - but when I traded trucks it was three screws (and removal of the clips) and this one was off the 2020 and ready to go onto the 2022.
I like to be able to remove things and not mess with tape and adhesive, just my preference. When I wanted to do some touchup on my SX4, good grief, I thought I was going to destroy the bumper and other parts getting a piece of trim off that I'd used the 3M tape on.
I wanted to remove the sill protectors from my 2020 and put them on the 2022 - screw that! I'd have destroyed the door opening of that truck to get those off, so they stayed and went with the truck rather than risk peeling a layer of paint or metal off the truck.

Most vendors will ship a replacement for a defect right out. If they even want the old one back at all, it's usually after you receive the replacement. So in your case, you could just take the clip you needed out, toss the broken clip in, and ship it right back.

I have the Mopar OEM as well. You probably don't realize how many have them installed because there are so few complaints about them. I have none. Rereading the OP post, is it a clip that broke, or a tab on the defector itself.?

Yeah, I guess I did not word it well. OP's post was the first time I seen someone posting a complaint about it. I knew others had it and did not expect the OP was the only one to have it.
