Ok so this is my first time doing gears. I got everything changed and put it all into the housing with the original factory shims. This is the first gear pattern. Backlash was 9 thousandths. Idk. Everything I’ve looked at so far this pattern looks good. Any experts let me know if I should keep going.

I was in fact not lucky. Rechecked my backlash and it was .012. So I messed with the shims on the carrier and it’s down to .008. Redid the pattern.

Patterns from an old service manual, but still correct for hypoid gear sets.

It may be the angle of the pictures but it looks to me that the pattern may be a little too close to the crown of the tooth. Nice wide pattern and centered witch is good. Maybe just should be a little deeper.

Thanks for the replies. I got the backlash down to 8 thousandths and went to do final assembly and the pinion crush sleeve refused to crush. I went and bought the 1000 ft/lb air impact from lowes and that got it crushed. Preload was about 19 inch pounds. I think it may be the angle of the pictures and I think I put the marking compound on a bit to heavy. I bought a tube of it on Amazon because I redid it a bunch. I got the rear axle buttoned up and the rear driveshaft back on. Then cleaned up the garage to get ready for the front. So far only hard task was the crush sleeve. Time will tell of course. I will open the diffs up after 500 miles and see how everything looks and adjust if necessary.
