I kind of thought my 8 spd transmission had issues, now I'm kind of thinking it is....

Sounds like mine. You describe it better than me probably.
i had issues with mine hanging at high rpms that was not normal to me. Another user did what i did and manually adjusted it, but what you described feels like mine gearing down and like shadowpapa said, it appears to be normal operation to me.

thats not at all what i was trying to say, my apologies.

I was using it in a relation to our perception of money. I dont think you are wrong or i am wrong, i think our perception of money is different.

Again, my apologies, i wasnt trying to be like that or be dick.

Glad to hear you're killing it professionally. My wife is a teacher and i work in the automotive industry. My retirement plan is death.
I get it man, sorry for jumping to conclusions. I think we are both right here. I'm not trying to be that guy either who says I'm on a higher level than you or better than you. I think across the board if we look hard enough we can kind lemons and tough situations with every manufacturer. It still never keeps me from buying what I like and I normally do it with the knowledge that something could happen. I mean if I didn't I wouldn't of bought a Jeep Gladiator based on my previous 2010 JkU deal with the Transmission and 2013 Grand Cherokee engine issue.

but thats the first thing i think of being more expensive than a Jeep labor rate or a domestic model.
Very regional. Here, we have a big disparity in the labor rates just between Jeep dealership shops.
The one I use on the west side is just short of $200/hour and yet others are around the $150/hour range.
It would seem that one could find Jeep shops that cost more per hour than certain other shops.
Mercedes, OTOH, back in about 2010 when I was growing frustrated with my gov't job, a friend who is a top tech at a Mercedes shop in the Germantown area (DC) told me to look for a job at Mercedes where I could have made more than my gov't IT job by a fair amount. Even starting out I could have all but equaled my IT pay. With that in mind, I wondered what the heck is THEIR hourly rate to be able to pay that much to their techs?

EDIT: gearheads will notoriously spend less DIY'ing. I thought we were talking straight dealer services, so our comparison wont be even.
LOL - that was my original retirement plan when I worked in shops. Yeah, the last boss I had paid very well (independent shop) but retirement? That was social security and sharing the cats' food if they let me.

Swapping springs on a JT by a dealer -
all 4 and all 4 shocks - $800
Front only - $400
Doing it yourself - ???? if you have the tools and time, whatever your time is worth.
(frankly, it's a tough choice at times because I can make quite a bit doing restoration work for others - very specialized stuff, while some stuff on a Jeep is monkey work. What do I WANT to do, and what are the benefits of doing either? It's not just the money. )

OP, same thing happens to me all the time. Owned since new and just on downshifts or low speed shifts (auto v6 gas). However, I sent the oil in for testing and it came back spotless. As long as the oil isn't showing any concerning results, it just is what it is. I don't think it is damaging anything and might just be slack in the driveline getting taken out by the transmission quickly changing RPMs.

I noticed that turning off traction control helps in traffic. I travel all through the Houston area for work and am in constant traffic that goes from dead stop to 60 to dead stop in 100 yards and repeat.

Interesting. I'll have to try that.

Just the nature of this particular transmission. And very likely some "wonky" Jeep/Chrysler tuning..

An example.. I was driving from Atlanta to Destin the other day and traffic downtown ATL got crazy. Stop. Go. Gas hard. abrupt on/off throttle. Stop hard. etc... for a good 30 minutes or so. The transmission on occasion would shift up and down harder than normal. A light thud almost.. Surge on some shifts. Hold gears longer than normal. etc. I was kind of disappointed as I was thinking it might be an after vacay dealership visit to have the transmission looked at.

Anyways, since then it has been all normal traffic. And it's been butter. All uninterrupted acceleration and it shifts beatifully. Smooth. Even with somewhat aggressive acceleration it's butter.

So, I guess now my thinking is it is just fine. However, it seems it does not like "interupted, off/on traffic-y acceleration/deceleration".

Anyone else feel or experience the same?
If you know how to check the trans level, I would check it. Mine was shifting hard and found it was short about 1 quart of trans fluid. Once I filled it, it was fine.
