Glad to read that you faced down the your dilemma, as a owner of way to many winches. 2 8k that have been used a lot and to recover my XJ plus many others. The 2 that have been swapped on n off my 4wheeler used many times for recovery of it and others. Then to the 2 different ones on LJ never used to recover it but others and tree removal, ect ect. One on JT not been used otherwise. During my youth I needed a winch many times but didn't have one... So if lucky a come-a-long, bumper jack... chains ? ? and friends with tractor many of the latter. ;)? to include being pulled out with bull dozer I was really really stuck down by the river. Lots of time spent fishing and luckily the owner of the land there had known me since I was in 4th grade. With that He knew I wasn't one of the riff raff teens just diehard about camping, fishing and hunting then, not smoking, drinking and what not teens.

In 53 years I've never seen a Brinks truck following the hearse to the cemetery. :like:

You ever price a casket?
Too many in fact and a dang pine box wouldn't be affordable at current lumber prices. ?
A s!### part of the funeral expenses is the markup for casket. That's where the funeral service providers really pad the bill, I've wanted to build my own then use it for a coffee table until needed that way it would also be what I wanted no mussing or fussing about it. ? :like:

I have not used my winch off-roading but I did get a neighbor out of his ditch when he missed the driveway. Made a friend. I also encountered this mini copper that parked like an asshole at my office. Pulled it out too the middle of the parking lot. They almost got a ticket.

I want an old fashion Irish Wake. After the funeral. Take me home and stand me up in a corner. Then toast me for 3 straight days like they did for my great grand father. That was a drunken mess. :CWL:

The Irish always do it right. Reminds me of a Weekend at Bernies.

At risk of getting flamed I have a suggestion. For the needs you described I would go with a Wyeth-Scott More Power Puller. It's a Come-Along from hell.
https://www.wyeth-scott.com/
Quality, USA made, every individual part is available for repair. Use on the homestead or trail. Labor intense and slow, but it works.
I once came across a flooded river crossing in Utah. I was going to stop about 30' from the river but the front tires suddenly sank into the saturated clay. 4wd just dug them in, even though the back tires were still on dry. I probably should have just taken out the shovel and dug a trench backwards behind each tire, but instead I got out the More Power Puller and a Pull-Pal land anchor:
https://www.pullpal.com/
After a bunch of work it did get the truck out, but by end I was standing over the handle pulling with two hands to get a single click, and the land anchor had dug in so far it had disappeared from view. Somewhere down there it finally got enough resistance to hold as I cranked on the handle. I had to dig it out from under ground when I was done. Both tools paid for themselves that day. I haven't used either since, but I 4wheel less than I used to.

The red Utah clay was underneath that truck for years afterwards.

That Utah clay is the worst! It’ll suck your shoes right off your feet never to be seen again. Some poor archeologist will find them 1000’s of years from now and ask “We have found the footwear of descendants of Dr. Scholl!”
