My dealer was great - didn't have what I wanted on the lot, so she told me to send her a sticker from any dealer in the state and she'd get it for me. Job done. đź‘Ť

My dealer wanted $3k worth of useless crap which I said I won't pay for. It included panel etching (VIN), paint protection (PPF on fenders and door edges), and some paint treatment they claim will help paint longevity. I said no and gave them my terms and they knocked it down to $400 total for their add-ons and took some money off somewhere else so I still got my terms and it's what it is. I wish I did get locking lug nuts though.

That’s the exact same thing they’re trying to get me with they’ve come down from 3k to 1500 and I told them I don’t want to pay for it so I’m at a stand still

The salesmen don’t even know anything about the cars they are selling. It’s like you have one job, dude. How hard is it to be proficient in the vehicles you sell?
This is certainly annoying. I sometimes wish I could be as lazy as some of these people....

It seems to vary by areas, dealers, and also how you approach them. I've owned three Jeeps, and none had mandatory add-ons. They all had something they WANTED me to add, but when pressed, they backed off. For the Gladiator I asked three dealers for their FULL OUT THE DOOR price over email, never negotiated in person. I picked the best price. I didn't care how they screwed with the numbers, the bottom line is the only thing that matters. They tried to upsell me an alarm when I got there, and I just said, "I'm paying the exact price you already quoted me."

In other places, I've heard of a list of add-ons that can't be negotiated.

I had the same issue, all dealers stated a price online and over the phone I drove to them and then they add 4-5k worth of garbage...shitty alarm, some kind of LoJack system that has horrible reviews, tint and a wax...about 300-500 worth of extras for 4-5K!?!?. Same thing at all dealers I dealt with in San Diego, LA and Riverside counties. I had to fly out to AZ in order to get a deal. It was worth it as I paid 8500 below MSRP. I paid the dealer tax of 450.00 for literally the same exact dealer add-ons I was being charged 4-5k in Cali. I couldn’t get myself to pay 4-5k for that garbage felt like I was being taken advantage of. Only drawback was I had to do all the registration stuff on my own here, about 1k in DMV fees but still well worth the hassle.

Is it just me or does it seem like every gosh darn dealership wants to add 3-5k in “aftermarkets” Such as tint, wheel locks, and “paint protection”....I’m literally at a stand still On a deal for a new Durango because the dealership won’t discount it completely
They will stop doing it when people stop buying them like that.

They will stop doing it when people stop buying them like that.
Also, when buyers stop just looking at ads and believing them. The consumer is just as much to blame here. They look at online ads, email 27 dealers, and simply go with the cheapest advertised price instead of actual out the door price.

Buying out of state was an option when I had the time to fly out and drive back but I'm too lazy now. I think I did ok for the deal and nobody could even come close to competing with the numbers i got.

One dealer even asked me how come I didn't take the other dealer's deal already as they offered me a Sport S with a few option packages for cheaper than this dealer offered for a base Sport with no options.

Just be patient. I took over a month emailing and texting dealers in the area and finally got this deal out of nowhere. Another story for another time.

I got really lucky and only got hit with the "paint protection" nonsense. They snuck it in and I was halfway done signing paperwork when I spotted it. I still got a good deal overall, but it was a sneaky move.
I made them take the paint protection off. Auto Butler I think it was called. I told them nobody has proven to me it works. Is worth it ? Had salesman run his fingers over the new "treated truck. Then told him to run his fingers across my Jk I was trading. Polish on my JK was slick. Couldn't tell anything was on new JT. Told em it pissed me off to be charged for something I didn't agree to. I told him it would be best to give me a choice first.

Me: Snake oil.

Sales: No it's not.

Me: Yup, snake oil.

Sales: NO!

Me: 100% artificial snake oil.

Sales: Whatever.

I ordered my overland at 5% off invoice but the dealer had to add on the following:
universal security guard $299
wheel locks $125
doc fee $199
Was told it was nonnegotiable. I ran the numbers with the next best offer I had and it was still the best deal.

So the dealer I got my JT and my previous jeep from does keep a few Jeeps (out of the 50-70 JT’s and JL’s) on hand with mods on the sales floor or right outside the door to “show you what’s possible with a Jeep”. These consist of a mopar lift, 35’s or 37’s, tube doors on the sales floor, mopar lights, winch bumpers and so on. My prior salesman (who is now sales manager) told me they will get people that will buy the modded ones because that’s what the buyer planned to do to it anyway, but mostly it’s an attention getter and a way for them to sell upgrades on the Jeep you buy which is where they make their money. This same dealer does add $699 for nitrogen fill, scotchgaurd, ceramic paint protect, window etch and door edge guards. They do this to every vehicle when it comes off the truck unless it’s a special order and request it not to be done. Nitrogen fill is a joke (gone the first time you air down) and window etch? My uncle said they (cop) don’t look for that shit if the windows of a stolen vehicle are even intact when/if recovered. The scotchgaurd saved me when I spilled and entire cup of coffee in my lap and it beaded up and rolled right off the seat. I’ve heard of people paying for ceramic coat on the paint and a year later, my truck still beads up when it rains and I’ve never waxed it (just power wash it). So I chalk it up to paying for those two things and the rest are freebies. Also I didn’t trip too much on the add-on because even with it added to the cost of the Jeep, my sale price came out to just below 11% under sticker and like 7.5% below invoice

A dealer I bought a couple previous Jeeps from does the mod thing. All of it is idiotic, but here's why it works...people are too poor/stupid to save and do this cash, so they "need" to add it into the loan. They get morons financing 130% LTV to cover the mods at 12%, *plus* a personal loan to cover a few of the mods. Insane.

We were in the showroom and my wife walked up to one of the ugly modded things, walked around, frowned, and said, "Isn't this like $7,000 worth of stuff???" Yeah, they marked it up $25k. Then she mentioned the wires for the aux lights just taped up and already unraveling, no real connectors or wire tubes.

11% off sticker! That's awesome.

I thought I did well with 9% off sticker with discount and rebates.
