I'll try and be brief and make this easy in list form :) 2020 Gladiator is currently sitting at dealership. Need advice.

Initial issue was jeep did NOT auto recognize me and unlock door.

Hit unlock on fob and it lets me in.

push start button and says: key fob not found. Easy, battery prob bad. $10.

Ill wait for wifey with spare key. Same issue. So now it must be something with my car battery or whatever controls the ignition.

Call dealer. They say push key agaisnt the start button. Nothing

.In mean time I trickle charge my battery.....It starts but seemed hesitant.

Drove to get new car battery thinking that would do it...Go to turn Jeep off....It wont turn off! Crazy. Button has no effect.

Call dealer. I can pull fuel pump fuse or remove battery cable. Or drive it to them.

Dealer gets my jeep.

They put new battery in. Not the issue
.
They say its the node board for ignition...like 150 plus labor plus reprogram both keys. Not the issue. Jeep still will not turn off.

Today. The disaster...They say my back window has a seal leak and the (receiver? transponder?) Has water damage.

Recommend new back window $1500 and new receiver like $1300. Water damage from leak?

So I'm at like $3500 for a keyfob issue :)

Can someone clarify the parts involved and what I can do to talk with dealer?

Reseal window instead of replace? ASk for proof the receiver has water damage? COmplain the first repair of 900 was a waste?

Thx in advance. Mike

Is the rear window leaking a tsb? I know there is a fix for it. I thought that’s covered if it’s an issue. . If that’s the case then it seems it’s the jeeps fault not yours.

If some expensive electronics got damaged from a leaking rear window I'm curious how they are supposed to hold up when your soft top is down or hard top is off and you splash through water or get caught in an unexpected rainstorm.

Did they replace the auxiliary battery also?

When you said "hesitant" to start, do you mean it turned over slowly? A bad aux battery will kill the main battery. Your problems sound more like a low battery than anything else.

You got a 2020 and well past any warranty by time for any TSB to be covered and not out of pocket for the customer.

The RF hub is on the back inside cab wall and sounds about right for any water leaking inside to take it out.

The dealership is only going to do what is an approved repair for the rear window which is a replacement of it and the seal that comes with a new one. You could RTV it with black window silicone but that will probably have to be done by you. There is a few threads on rear window leaks if you search that has people doing similar.

As to the RF hub, if corroded out like the dealer says, that is going to have to be replaced. There is also probably connector damage on the harness side also from the same corrosion and would be prepared for that being quoted to be replaced also.

RF Hub is pretty integral to the start circuit.

Thanks. Your the first person to suggest this could have happened from water damage so thanks for cnfirming. WHy would it not turn off? Same issue as not starting ? comminication issue? SO its called an rfh? radio frequencey hub?

You need to look at the schematic I provided. The RFH (Radio Frequency Hub) in shown on the bottom of the schematic. Your push button start/stop is called the "Keyless Ignition Node - Module" and it directly integrates to the RFH. So starting and stopping can be impacted.

The RFH controls all remote signals to include the FOB lock/unlock, remote start and also the Door Proximity Sensors.

Your dealership techs only got to the RFH because they ran out of other parts to shotgun at it. I would also add that getting to the RFH can be a bit of a pain as getting the back trim panels off can be a bitch and sometimes they may also get broken.

Thanks...Yep that pdf covered everything....So its been a while since I've needed work done at a dealer....So when they replace 1k in parts and labor it does not fix it......But the service advisor says the node behind the ignition switch was bad and then the key program key was needed...DO you just pay? You are right. sometime switch repairs they have to shotgun approach.

Looks like another case for Stelantis too ditch fobs and just use a keyed ignition. Think of how many problems that would cure besides not carrying a "salt water fishing weight' in your pocket and the cloning issues.

How many TV articles lately about fobed cars or trucks being test driven at the dealers' then the persons, who cloned the fob, come back that night and steal the vehicle.

Crazy, had not heard that. Its one thing when your car does not recognize your fob or start. But when you push the button and it wont turn off....That was weird.

The original steering box was made out of aluminum. Several owners complained about the steering wandering. The TSB was to replace the steering box with a steel one.
