Since my forced engine swap from the cam shafts issue, my power windows and side mirror controls work intermittently. Soon after the swap, they generally worked with occasional malfunction. Now, 4 months later, they generally don't work, but occasionally might. I changed out the master switches on the dash and had no effect. It has to be electrical between battery and switch. I can take the doors off and plug them into another JT/JL and operate the windows with no problem. I have not been able to find much info on the wiring between the battery and the door. Most folks try to suggest a bent pin in oNE of the door plugs. But that is not the case. All four windows either work or they don't. All switches either work or none work. There is no scenario where one door works and another does not. The side mirror control follows suit with the windows. My initial thought is a bad ground. I am curious if anyone knows whether there is a common ground or positive wire that is shared by the window and mirror controls. I am hoping this is an easy driveway fix, but I can't find anyone else having this problem. Any thoughts or information ate welcome. Thanks.

I do not have schematics between the switches and where they end. But, you can try and find where the fuse/relay is for the the windows and power mirrors remove the plug if there is one and see if you can identify the pins for each. And then remove the the plug/wiring for the window switches. Then grab a Fluke and test for resistance(try moving the wiring around to further isolate breaks in wiring), if no breaks in wiring are identified, plug the the wiring back into the relay box and check for voltage with battery power on from the plug behind the window switches.

If resistance is good between relays and the connector to the switches. And you get voltage to the window switches after you reconnect the plugs to the relay box. Then there is an issue between the battery and relay box. Not between the relay box and window switches. So further isolation for faulty wiring is required and you'll have to chase wiring between battery and relay boxes.

Hope this helps and doesn't seem confusing. Wiring is always a pain in the ass and is usually something really simple. While this sounds in depth it isn't really and the thing that will take time is chasing the wiring bundles and finding the ends.

Calling around to dealerships or maybe 3rd party vendors and seeing if they have and or will give you schematics for the wiring would help and save time. But sometimes companies can be RELUCTANT on SHARING information(LOOKING AT YOU BOEING!). Sorry. The last part was personal. Got me heated. ?

I would look at the fuse box. Take it off like you would do if going for the aux battery. Check all those connections and spray them with DeoxIT D5 contact cleaner. Also amazing stuff for your door harness connections too!

Reassemble and push down all your fuses too.

(If I was going to take the fuse box out to inspect, go a little further and check the aux battery, take it out and charge it up on an AGM charger. Put it all back and I’d bet you’d solve your problem.)

Thanks. I put a new aux battery in with the engine. What little I can find is that there is no fuse for the doors, but a self resetting circuit breaker. But I have no idea where it is located.

Attached is the window wiring diagram from the Wrangler JL which should be similar if not exactly the same. Have also attach the mirror wiring diagram and the power distribution block with fuse, relay and CB location.

Looks like the window used a thermal tripping circuit breaker that resets after it cools down. That is not uncommon on window circuits.

I cannot find a common power source or grounds between the window and mirror circuit.

Thanks a ton for that. The fuse for the power mirrors is good. I just ordered a replacement thermal reset breaker. If that does not solve it, then there has to be a common ground wire or ground point that is not secure. It may be spending a few days at the dealership.

Update: I could not trace the issue, so I dropped it at the dealership Wed morning. I am out of town until Friday evening (a week and a half). I am hoping they can find and fix it in that amount of time.

Hey John, I am having the same issue, did the dealership ever tell you what the problem was?
