Huh, someone should tell my old car that Reverse is in the wrong spot.

I think we are seeing a pattern of randomization . New Theory :
They changed it up just to give us fodder for conversation on these forums 😂😂

Really easily. I especially liked the ring lockout for reverse instead of "push down and shift" like everyone else.

Mine is "push hard right then back.
There's no push down. When in the gate, you have to pus a bit harder, you can't just slip over into reverse. But then, logically, there really isn't a need for any real lockout the way that pattern works. If you are pushing THAT hard, you need to service the thing.

i have had 'em with the ring lockout - those do work well.

I can't recall owning one with push down and shift in any stick I've owned.

My Nissan had it, press down and throw waaaaaaaaay to the right until your hand is in another time zone, then down for R out past 6th.

On more than one occasion I watched shop guys and porters repeatedly find 6th before giving up and asking me to reverse it out of the bay.

Edit: Better CC VW on that email - because they made a lot of manuals with reverse next to 1st; like for decades levels of "a lot".

I really hope you meant Nürburgring
Three laps around the international court!!

Leave the keys in it, no one knows how to drive it anyway.
I had an insurance agent say that about a normal 5-speed, never mind my three on the tree, and then the Lenco is the peak...

My opinion, the race and manual transmission comparisons just don't translate over here.
As someone who switches regularly between an auto, a 6 speed, a 5 speed, and a 3 on the tree, I can say muscle memory matters.

As someone who switches regularly between two different automatics, a 6 speed, a 5 speed, and a 4 speed, I can say you're correct that muscle memory matters. Not sure what point you're trying to make though.

and motorcycles are (pull back (up) on your foot to upshift, push forward (down) to downshift).
Not on some bikes I had - push down to shift up to the next gear - foot under pedal, lift to downshift.
1 up, the rest down.

It was confusing moving from one to the other - there wasn't a standard, at least back then.
I was thinking one of them was neutral all the way down........

The easier ones were down to downshift - it was like pressing a brake pedal and intuitive.

Is that the release to go into reverse ?
Nope, that’s the overdrive, the release is a ring around the shift lever you pull up with your fingers (not in the shot).

The stick shift comparison doesn't really make sense because when shifting through each gear you push and pull no matter if you're shifting up or down
Not on a dual clutch. Dual clutch transmissions are more like the sequential transmission on a motorcycle. I always preferred to use the paddles in my M5s, right paddle upshifted and left paddle downshifted.
