Something sure happened.
I'm getting about 10% better mileage on this tank.

Not up here in RI. Still plugging along at 16-17 mpg and it’s been in the 20’s overnight still.

I did do a couple of things different with mine lately. It'd be extra nice to see it go up another 10% in a month or two.

Mid April when they switch over. That's after the oil refineries do their outages. And change things around.

It could be from the warmer weather too.

Generally, from the refineries I've worked, late March to mid April.

Any more the refineries in the midwest do their major outages in late summer. But they do some minor turn-arounds during the spring switch over.

The oil refineries I worked at. Did 2 outages a year. One major and one minor, depending what needed fixed. I've done Sunoco, Marathon, Ashland, and Kendall.

Well then, perhaps my low viscosity oil stabilizer snake oil and/or the catch can are doing some good in there.

I've been getting better mileage (+2 mpg) over the last month as well. I've switched from Conoco to Chevron station for my fill-ups during that time. I believe both are "Top Tier" carriers so I doubt that's it. But it makes me wonder if there actually could be a difference between them.

FYI: The federally mandated dates for summer-grade gasoline and reformulated gasoline, where required, are May 1 to September 15 for refiners and terminals, and June 1 to September 15 for gasoline retailers. In California switchover dates are earlier, and summer-grade gasoline must be in use for a longer period.

The jolt at the pump comes as the price of oil—which is refined into gasoline—continues to rise, with the U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate increasing by nearly 3% over the past month to over $79 per barrel, and the international benchmark Brent Crude Oil jumping 1.20% over the same time to nearly $82.
Patrick De Haan, head analyst with GasBuddy, expects that price to keep climbing as refineries struggle with capacity, with gas supplies inching down.
According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gasoline stocks in the U.S. have come down to 247 million barrels in the week ending Feb. 16, a decrease from 253 million barrels a month ago, while demand has steadily climbed up over the same time, to 8.33 million barrels per day.
