Hi there folks, getting my first mountain bike and a coworker told me about a mount for the trail rail system that goes goes in the bed and locks the bike in. I can't find this anywhere, is this a real thing? If not what is the best option? Was thinking of just the vinyl going over the tailgate.

I don't have the trail-rails, but I installed a couple mounts like this to the rail mounting nut-serts. You might be able to find hardware that locks into the rails...

Are you opposed to a hitch mount? I use a 1 Up Super Duty single bike. It's rated for off-road use even with 50 lb e-bikes. It's very light and rock solid steady even on rough terrain.

I think I am just going to do a tailgate one, but that rig looks good, love the Sarge Green. I wish they had that option or the orange when I got my Launch Edition.

I've had my JT since July 2019. I was an avid mountain biker and the first thing I did was to fasten my pair of Yakima Blockheads to the side of a 2x4 so I could haul bikes around. I found out my dad's Tundra cleats fit my Trailrail. Long story, short, Toyota Tacoma/Tundra slotted T-nuts work great. Get the stainless steel ones because the mild steel ones start rusting immediately. Here's a link and some photos...

I use a bath mat and a bungee cord as my tailgate mount. It’s easy doesn’t take any extra space to store. I like that the rubber back on the bath mat keeps it from sliding. If I have to stop at the store or something I also have a cable lock to hook to the bed tie down if I have to go to a store or somethin. Honestly I love the trail rail tie downs but Haven’t seen any other attachments that wold be useful for me.

I think you're thinking of the RockyMounts DropTop (RockyMounts DropTop). I have the RockyMounts HotRod and it's great. It doesn't lock, but I keep a cable lock in the bed. Has adaptors for all of the different sized axles and I have a quick release add on as well. Basically fits any of my bikes.

if you want to carry bike in bed you just need a tailgate pad? it you do on cross bars there's many options and then the hitch. I did tail gate pad (takes up all bed space) cross bar mount with 1Up (was great) to now hitch as I have an ARE topper (also easier to load since not as high)

Thule offers a nice in-bed mount. Only problem is you have to remove the bike's front tire to lock the forks in. I carry two bikes very easily and securely as it's not a big deal to remove/re-attach the front tires.
