Throwing a bump on this one. Had no idea you were finding out the hard way why they call it "practicing medicine." Hope it's on the upswing. BTW: I just started on gabapentin for a bulging disc issue but may have to consider other options.

Be well sir!

If for any reason you have to stop taking that stuff - wean off it really really slowly - I mean real slowly. Weeks or more.

My PCP is finally getting things a little bit under control, but now he's switched meds and the one he's taking me off of because of extreme side effects, he's having to take 3 weeks to get me off of and I had just started it. Now It's a hell of a mix of different pills at night - like a danged pharmacy on the counter in the kitchen and I have to mark the calendar to not get things mixed up.
Like a guy who I was talking to yesterday said (and his father was a doctor for decades), all of the gabapentin stuff started in the middle of being really sick with a chest/sinus infection and on strong antibiotics, so it was bad stuff going on at a bad time.
AND, they are also switching things up for the migraines, so until the new stuff starts working, I end up with days like yesterday where I couldn't even turn my head without almost falling down due to the "vestibular migraine".

All of this is nothing new to us, though - 2 different doctors were trying to treat my wife for heart issues. One med wasn't working, so they kept upping the dose. Still not working so they switched meds. Then that doctor changed professions (yeah, went into health services IT) and the new doctor decided to up the dose of the new med because it wasn't working.
Over 25 years later, after an episode of troubles in Cleveland (and even they didn't seem to know what was going on) our neighbor gave my wife the name of the cardiologist he used. she made an appointment. He checked her over and said neither of those medicines could have ever worked - both were all wrong for that condition.
About an hour, maybe less, of out patient surgery, she was cured.

Bill, the above post is precisely why I called it "practicing" medicine.

Glad to hear there's some progress, though.

Far as the Gabapentin- I take one every morning and that's it. My PCP, ortho, and PT all said that should be sufficient. I'll keep your advice in mind and relay to my doc when I see him next week for epidural steroid shots in L3, 4, 5...

I was taking 1 in the am, one in the PM - 300 each, 600/day total. Most said "that's not enough to be of any problem, withdrawal comes from taking over 1,000/day" and to that - I say "BS" as 2 doctors even said that's what it was.
But they are not correct on the length of time - most places like Mayo and so on say 7 to 10 days is the max time for the symptoms, but I'm finding people dealing with it for weeks, even months.

When Tuvak's vet asked if he should have gabapentin before he had his blood and urine drawn for check-up on his thyroid issues, I really fast said NO, he'll be fine!
