I forgot to add an important one in my post that I dinged Stellantis for on the survey, The Dodge Garage and the Uconnect app.

My Uconnect app via Dodge Garage says I own three vehicles: A 2022 Gladiator Rubicon, A 2020 Gladiator Mojave, and a 2022 Dodge Challenger Scatpack Widebody. The problem is, I traded the Challenger in on this rubicon in July, and I got rid of the Mojave almost two years ago. But I can still remote control and track those vehicles via my Uconnect app.

Brian, the Krebs Security column guy wrote an article about this problem with another manufacturer. He sent it to me after I engaged him about what’s going on with my former vehicles.

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2020/02/when-your-used-car-is-a-little-too-mobile/

I need to call Stellantis, again. We’ve had this talk a couple of times now about removing these old vehicles. I’ve tried several times via the Dodge Garage website to remove these vehicles, but they persist in my account.
Funny…I can still monitor and control (lock, unlock, remote start, etc.) a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2015 RAM 1500, and a 2017 Scat Pack Challenger that I traded in years ago.

I’m not worried about it because I’m not an ass and I’m not going to do anything to them but there’s got to be some kind of serious issue there.

Wouldn’t it be cool if the turn signal level was a mini version of the gear shifter? Metal shaft, leather wrapped end, etc.
That would be cool! Really anything would be better than the ā€œwork truckā€ stick we got lol

I tried to get Krebs to write about it/expose it, but he declined because of his existing article. But this security fiasco with Unconnect needs some daylight disinfectant in a prominent news source to get a swift fix taking place.

ā€œWork truckā€ stick implies strong and masculine. This ā€œEl Cheapoā€ turn signal lever belongs in a $16k Hyundai, if such thing still existed. Rather than in a $66k diesel Rubicon.

I literally just clicked the submit button on my Jeep Quality Survey from Stellantis for my 2022 Gladiator Rubicon diesel.

Overall, I gave the vehicle high marks with a few exceptions.

These are the things I complained about:

1. The steering still has too much free play in these things. It’s work keeping this pickup in your lane. You gotta remain hypervigilent at all times, especially at highter speeds.. It’s not like a Ram 3500 or a hemi Challenger, that you just point in a direction and it goes there until you make a change. These things wander in the lane. Got burned on the 2020 Mojave with the bum steering gear at purchase. This isn’t a huge improvement since then.

2. Have I told you recently how much I hate the freaking Start/Stop button? Let’s be honest I am/we are subsidizing the Cafe standards for the Challengers and Chargers by having this thing tormenting me/us. And it’s in an awful location. 50% of the time, I forget to press it to off before taking departing. And DO NOT try to dart out into traffic if the vehicle is cut off at an intersection. It’s slow to re-engage and get moving again. I refuse to believe this thing going off and on all day long is good for longevity of the engine or starter.

3. I think the turn signal arm is cheap and flimsly. And it’s hard to engage. This cheap hollow plastic thing is an insult to the character of something like a Rubicon. I want something rugged, metal, and thugish.

4. Hopefully it just needs an update, but the NAV system is really inaccurate. it’s constantly telling me I can do 65 MPH in much slower zones, etc.

5. The effing windshield design sucks. Less than 2k miles and I was in the Cracked Windshield Club. A month later, fingers crossed, I might get it replaced later this week at Safelite. That’s been a real pain in the arse.

Vehicle suggestions:

I don’t know why Jeep is putting carpet in an off-road vehicle like a Rubicon? Geez, put some vinyl or rubber flooring in these things. Plus it would be more dog hair friendly. And would probably help with the road noise.

Redesign the windshield to better avoid glass breakage, or switch to something literally bullet proof like Tesla bragged about with the Cyber truck.

Those were my gripes and complaints. Overall, Stellantis has done really well with my vehicle quality wise. The only defect I’ve noticed is a circular indention on the tailgate, looks like a visible stamp mark. But it’s really hard to see unless the light catches it just right.

Yeah I hit them on your number two so to speak.

Turn signal and wiper stalks felt better on my JK. These feel like a step backwards.
It went from a Mercedes sourced part to a Fiat sourced part. Enough said. Ha.

I’ve always hated the turn signal lever myself. My 2011 Honda Odyssey has such a nice sturdy and buttery turn signal lever compared to this. Small but just something that I noticed right away
This is rally a major source of annoyance for me also. Its minor, but as someone who ALWAYS uses his turn signal, its the control I use most other than the steering wheel and the brake/gas pedals.

My old car, a Volvo S80 has a solid, and smooth switch inside that just felt good to use for both turn signals and high/low/flash controls.

Yeah, but the thing is it’s not really a minor annoyance because it’s a control thatā€˜s legally mandated for you to use. Most of my driving is city, suburban, and exurbs. I’m using the thing constantly. Trying to shove it on. Trying to yank it off when it didn’t turn itself off. Like one guy said, this turn signal arm should be ā€œsmooth as butter.ā€

I agree. Its something that constantly annoys me. I live 5 miles outside of Boston and spend probably 100 days per year in either rural CT or NH. Its much more of an annoyance at home where I may use it 10 times in a 5 minute trip.

Totally commiserating with you about this turn signal issue.

Some people are probably thinking: ā€œWhat are you doing with a Jeep?ā€ And ā€œwhy do you even need it?ā€

Answer: Because although the state and county governments are sucking up huge amount of tax dollars, they’re not using that money to fix the roads and fill potholes. Not to mention the constant debris on the roads, shredded semi tires, etc. Damn shame you need a rugged vehicle for city and surburban driving these days, but it’s a harsh reality anywhere it snows and the roads are ate up.

I’ll go so far as to make a prediction that the bad road problem is gonna hamstring the electric car shift if they don’t get busy fixing them. I safely drive over potholes in this Rubicon that would have swallowed and blown one of the 5ā€ wide doughnut tires on my BMW i3.

I came from a Volvo S80.

I've always driven too fast. The Volvo was a baby hauling purchase, prior to that we had a Subaru STi and a Miata. It was time for a new car. I was looking at either a M2 or a 230. (didn't like the 240, it felt ponderous)

We have gotten heavy into skiing the last few years and are up in NH every often. Plus a friend bought land that I shoot at all the time that requires something taller to get down the driveway. (I use that term loosely).

I looked at the Bronco and Wrangler and neither had any real room in back. I needed something that could at least carry my dog in his kennel and a family's worth of stuff for the weekend.

The Gladiator slowed me down and gave me the room I wanted with the addition of a topper. It works for me.

Its funny, I remember reading an article back in the 90s about perceived automotive quality. (back when I was selling cars) and it talked about the importance of control and switchgear quality. It talked about how the US makers were upping that quality because it is high as far as people's perceptions.

What's funny is that Jeep does a great job in many other ways. Go compare the Jeep interior to a Bronco and its night and day. The Bronco looks and feels like its made of recycled Tupperware. The jeep has nice textures and even the shifter (which isn't really a shifter) moves with a feeling of quality. Everything looks and feels like quality. Which is why the turn signal stalk and wiper stalk stick out so bad.

Its like they are out of a base Fiat 500.
Fiat is a huge company that makes everything from 20k cars to Ferraris. Surely there is some intermediate quality turn signal stalk that is a step up, that they can pull from the corporate parts bin.

I wonder what they are using in the $120k Grand Wagoneer?

As an aside, this is something that I have a general interest in. I used to work in software development and one of my strengths was user interface / user experience design. I'm good at it and its constantly in the back of my head.

Excellent thought about what Jeep is using in the Grand Wagoneer?

I’m intrigued. Gonna have to chat an owner up at the grocery store or elsewhere and investigate.

They have one at our local dealership for a loaner. It sure is big but it's not really fancy inside.

I’m at a CDJR dealership as I write this post. So I couldn’t resist checking out the turn signal lever on one of the $108k Grand Wagoneer price pigs to see if Jeep went all-in and made a higher quality arm for their top of the line luxury liner.

It appears to be the same cheap plastic lever.

Wow ...

Well, at least now you can sleep the sleep of angels knowing that your complaints are being parsed by a text bot and then stored in a database located somewhere in the Amazon cloud until it is deleted ...

Feels great to get it out though ...
Like a really good fart. Really! People know you’ve expressed it, but it never really goes anywhere.
