More rural roads: 90+%

more suburban roads: 40% if I’m lucky.

it is what it is.
That’s about what it is in my area. Rural, pretty much everyone waves. The few that don’t just look preoccupied.

Around the city, I almost completely stopped proactively waving. As we’ve got a LOT of Jeep peeps that will look right at you…literally make eye contact…and not return a wave.?

I.e. Went through a drive-thru with the wife yesterday evening. Guy does a SLOW roll by in a modified TJ. Neck craned 90 degrees and looking right at us when he passed. I wave and he goes “eyes front” and drives by without waving.?

What is that?? I get it…you’re under no obligation to wave, but that just seems weird.

the irony of the wave is that if you wait to get the wave, and you then wave back, both parties are satisfied. If you wave first, and the other driver doesn't respond, that person is an ahole. If you don't respond to the wave, you're the ahole. Eventually, you realize the wave becomes a gamble to not be the ahole.
In the 70's that symbol was shared by most to say "peace" to others.
My own statics:
the wave: 25% increase
tie dyed tshirts: 40% increase
70's music: 80% increase
pot smokin: 70% increase
jeep owners: 90% increase
truth about statistic: 3%

Massachusetts, specifically the North Shore. I average about 75% successful wave returns. Yes, you read that right. Us Massholes wave at each other. :)

A couple of observations from little out west here in Montana:

In town, probably 50/50. The ones that don’t wave are bone stock and generally driven by the 20-something bottle blonde type. (Not a dig at stock rigs)

On the highway, gotta be something like 90/10. Did a road trip over to Kalispell to go get that BADGE OF HONOR - only 3 out of about 50 didn’t wave. Not bad.

I’m a new Jeep owner but I feel like the wave seems to be situational here in Orlando, High density of Jeeps may be the issue.

I feel like I’m more likely to wave passing on a 2 lane road vs 4 and more so if there is a median.

I seem to wave more on Fri, Sat and Sun vs Mon Tue or Wed

I am more likely to wave to Jeeps with top or doors off than one all buttoned up. Also I seem to wave more when I have my own the top / doors off.

it is not perfect, but sometimes it is nice to feel a part of a group ??‍♂
I’m not on the EC, but suburban waves are definitely situational regarding road conditions.

Medians? No wave.
4 lane hwy with two lanes separating each? No wave.
4 lane highway but only one lane separating ? Wave.
4 lane hwy, 1 lane separation, but another car in the vicinity? 50-50

This doesn’t take into consideration that suburbanites are less ‘jeeper’to begin with.

I’ve put on a little more than 4,500 miles since May 1, mainly on a run from OK4WD in Jersey to Florida’s treasure coast via the Blue Ridge Mountains, then back up to Long Island and Upstate NY by way of I95, with a side trip to Southern Pines NC.

Florida (mostly Vero Beach) — 8 for 54
South Carolina — 12 for 16
North Carolina (both Blue Ridge coming down and Southern Pines region heading up) — 28 for 31
This tracks with VA- I get at least 90% return.

Long Islander here, we wave, but most of us are stressed and in a rush so waving is last on the menu lol I'll wave back if you wave, but I won't start the wave if you have a stock jeep, I think the wave is nice jeep, not just we both have a jeep. This island is absolutely full of jeeps, honestly it's insane, I think people are just tired of doing it all day, 7 million people on the island half have jeeps
The prevalence of Jeeps on Eastern Long Island truly is nutty. If I drive 10 miles, I probably cross 20 of them. I would say the wave incidence is under 20%; much higher if confined to decked out rigs.

I’ve been waving since 1977 owning my first Jeep CJ5. Purchasing a Jeep (Military,CJ, YJ, TJ, JK, JL, JT) you now belong to a community a life style and sharing a wave affirms this. You can choose to wave or not but know you are part of the Jeep community. As crazy as this world is being part of something provides some solace in our day to day lives.:fist bump:

I’m the other end. I’ve been off roading since my buddy and I rewired an old FJ we bought for beer, but this is my first Jeep. I love being in the community, and I’m making up for lost time — waving like a fool, stopping to help anyone down on the road, and talking to everyone I see with s rig who makes eye contact. It all may get me shot someday, but I’ll put on a few good miles first.

I even bumped into a guy with an AEV Brute outside Ancram, NY. Nice guy. Gave me a tour of the truck.

You really do gotta love this.

can we definw western jersey...????... i have lived here my entire life and never heard or used that phrase lol. Its either north or south lol
There actually is an East and West NJ. A few years ago the state bought and restored an old tavern located outside of Barnegat NJ and our family was invited to the opening because it was owned by a family member (great x5 grandfather). If you ever go there, the dirt road back to the tavern actually has a marker sign that reads welcome to East Jersey or welcome to West Jersey depending which way you are going. The tavern has an interesting history:

Leaving aside the big interstates and any other divided highways, I made a point of waiving at every Gladiator or Wrangler I saw coming the other way. I tracked results in pretty close to real time, and here’s what I got for waves back …

Florida (mostly Vero Beach) — 8 for 54
South Carolina — 12 for 16
North Carolina (both Blue Ridge coming down and Southern Pines region heading up) — 28 for 31
Western NJ — 0 for 8
NY (Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk) — 4 for 59
NY (Finger Lakes and Rochester) — 15 for 41

Add to these highly scientific findings the fact that a dude at a Dunkin’ Donuts outside of Statesville NC called me “my brother” and comped me on breakfast at the drive thru, and I’ve got to say the Carolinas rocked this thing. I’ll definitely be looking for more wheeling trips there. I’d think about relocating, but I’m guessing the nicest thing a New Yorker can do for folks down there is not move in!

More than welcome to move, just don't vote for $5 gas or we will have words...
