I have the Wrangler 6.4L in my Mojave. I keep the original 1622 (2H, 4H/4L) transfer case. On the freeway I get 18.5/19 MPG and 16/17 MPG around town. The Wrangler 392 uses the full time 4 wheel drive transfer case. I’ve talked to a number of those owners and they are lucky to get 14/15 MPG on the freeway and less in town. They do but the 100m hurdle race of getting it through a referee is a complex goat rope. If they’ve never seen it before they are more likely to put the big red “X” on your submission. Yes there are guidelines and rules and regs for all of it but if it look like an alien most people are gonna shoot it. I’d really like to do something along the lines of that Mercedes Diesel you mentioned above. Small scale turbo diesel that has enough power to move it but not enough to drink a tank in an hour. Feed it the 8 gears and that would be one heck of a machine.
