Every time mine said 6 they put in 6
Not mine. Only one time - the first back in early 2020, was it actually 6 and they weren't yet experienced with the JT engine, they sold mostly Grand Cherokees which take 6 quarts.
I talked to them about the papers showing 6 a couple of times in later months and they explained how it works.

Had to if I wanted the jeep back. I figured jeep wave would give it to me, then found out that they couldn't uncancel my oil changes. The service advisor said it would take 4 hours. She said I could talk to finance and get it worked out. I tried doing that and Jeep waves, and Mopar but nobody could help me. Ended up only taking an hour and when I went to cancel the work until I could get Jeep Wave to work it out. The tech was just parking the Gladiator after finishing the work. I am now hoping that they will cut me a check for the amount paid. I am going to be pretty upset if I am not reimbursed!!

I certainly get that. But I don't get why they would need to open a 6th quart when the specs call for 5 quarts with a filter change? So conceivably the engine might need slightly less than exactly 5qts if it didn't drain properly (although in practice, such a minuscule amount is meaningless), but it should never need MORE than 5qts.
LOL - they use bulk dispensers. They don't sit there and open 5 bottles. It's like I did on the farm, buy the oil in the barrel, and use a metered dispenser. Those aren't always 100% accurate but pretty darned close. It's not worth their time to open bottles.

Yup, I know that too. Spent many years selling wholesale stuff to dealers and repair shops. Even after I was a full-time automotive machinist, I used to work the sales side weekends for extra money. I was just questioning the logic of those posts that claimed if they had to open another bottle, they had to charge for it.

It's also another reason I don't take my vehicles to a shop for oil/filter changes. Many of them bought REALLY cheap filters, like $1 each in bulk. And they only bought 1 type of oil in 55gal drums. Every car got it, no matter what weight it called for. Dealers were somewhat better. They only bought filters and oil to fill in what that might be short on, usually older stuff, and even when they used aftermarket parts, they usually went with the quality stuff to CYA.

Funny story from back then. One of our biggest customers was a well known discount parts and service chain. One day I asked the service manager there why they bought so many parts from us that surely their parts side of the biz had in stock. He said something to the effect of "I'm not putting that sh*t on any job were I have to eat a ton of labor when it fails."

Ford and Jeep warranty claim analyst.
Remember that this is what they are charging Jeep for. So if they can make an extra half of a quart on every oil change, then that either goes right into profit, or some employee takes advantage of the inventory overage for his own oil change.
Jeep pays them a flat rate for oil changes. They don't pay by the quart. But thanks for making folks think they do.

Really? We had to itemize everything, even on PDIs, TSBs or recalls. I guess someone figured out that processing some extra lines on a repair order cost more in labor than a few fraudulent warranty claims.

I believe it was an oil pan redesign. It initially led to a lot of overfills on newer 3.6L because the lube techs just ASSumed they all still took 6qts.
huh, I had no idea. I have done dozens of oil changes with 6qts in my JKs so I was reading this thread thinking I was losing my mind!
