I had a 82 Scrambler, towed several campers all over with it, Had a J-10 Levi's 360ci edition I paid $1800 for to use to build my house , and sold it near the end for $1800, daughters loved that fire breathing lifted white truck called Frosty, blue jean interior was way cool. Had a XJ Wagoneer which to this day has been my wife's favorite car even including having to swap the Chevy engine due to a not so great design , put a low mileage Blazer engine in it , but that also developed the same antifrreeze in oil due to the design of a bolt going through the water jacket into oil passage, traded it in, and was Jeep less for long time , until Pat said she wanted a Wrangler 15 years ago, and then got another 6 years ago!, and still loves her Jeep!......Jack

LOVE IT! Those were cool and the 360 is a pretty stout, bullet-proof engine in its own right.
There a guy in Michigan that can turn the 360 into a real racing screamer on a tight budget. Farm Boys AMC..............

Bill I have to add I bought the J-10 in middle of winter from a guy smoking a big cigar, we drove around with windows down everything was cool other then his smoking, after buying it the same day, when I went to leave up went the windows and turned heat on, Boom... leaky heater core windows fogged up and I could hardly inhale, put the windows back down and drove it that way for 12-13 months, sold it to an excited guy that knew everything about the truck and heater core....Jack

I've owned several AMC Jeeps. My first was a 1980 CJ7 that I purchased new. It was my first new vehicle purchase. My current AMC Jeep is this 1973 CJ5. It has had a complete frame off restoration done. That included a new (not rebuilt) 304 V8 long block crate motor that we managed to find. It has 2300 miles on it since the restoration.

At times I miss my 79 CJ5, AMC360, TF727, Dana 20, model 20 rear axle with Moser 1 piece shafts, 3 inch lift and 33x12.50r15. The motor was a fresh build/swap when I got it. I replaced the TH400 that was swapped at the same time as the motor with the TF727, gained about 6 inches of rear drive line. Added a custom tuned EFI and custom sprung/weighted HEI big cap distributor. Ran flawless, loads of low end torque, way too much power for the fiberglass bodied machine.

Other than daily driving it for years, this is what it ended up doing the last 10yrs or so I had it.
Probably needed a wash job, but it's supposed to be white. Looked more creamy in the snow, but was pretty white looking the rest of the time.

Don't have the room anymore for everything. So it, along with a few other toys had to go.

My 1983 CJ7 with the AMC 20 rear and equally horrible T-4 manual. I got it my junior year of high school 1986. I was hooked on jeeps in the 4th grade when my best friend’s older brother took us for a ride in his CJ5 with V8, fender well headers, header mufflers and Levi’s seats. He went to pick up his girlfriend and let us tag along. She was a total smoke show and threw her hands up over the windshield as we cut across her yard and ramped out of the ditch on to the road. Remember it like yesterday.
My CJ has changed a lot over the years. It now has coil overs, stretched, Dana 60, 14 bolt, 39.5 stickies, 360 with fuel injection and a Turbo 400

My first AMC was a 1971 Hornet SC/360 4 speed. Neat little car. Almost no weight over the rear tires. Bought it used from used car dealer in 1975. Had no idea was the car was at the time except it was a V8 with a 4 speed. That's all I wanted as a kid. Ended up with a 401 in it before I got rid of it.

Next AMC I got was my first Jeep. A 1988 Cherokee with the 4L six. I bought for my first wife. Put a lot of miles on that Jeep.

Now on Jeeps #6 and #7.

Also had an 87 Wagoneer with 360 with Eddy intake, cam and Carb. DUI HEI dist. 44’s front and rear with 4.10’s and trac locks. Mild lift and 33x10.50’s on stock wheels. It was my wife’s daily and kid hauler. Kick myself everyday for selling it.
