JLUR 2.0T vs JTR 3.6

I have a JTRD and a JLURD. I'm partial to the diesel but as far as comparing truck to 4-door JL Truck rides better, hauls cargo easier. JL off road's better, gets better fuel economy, easier to park, more dry storage. Love them both.

It's definitely a light duty truck, but it is more useful than the other mid-sized trucks in my experience. Let's see you haul 14' lumber in a Colorado, or even a full size without a rack or a trailer.

Which was my whole point, I have full size trucks, racks, and trailers.

If I had to take my top off and go through all that to tote a small amount of lumber, and I had one vehicle, and hauling lumber was a core competency I needed, I would buy a full size truck.

You made do, which is what people do when what they have, isn't quite what they need.

I wouldn't buy a lumber rack or a trailer for the occasional time I needed a few 14' boards either. The gladiator is better for that task than a full size because the top is removable. If I needed an entire load of lumber we would be talking trailer or even better delivery by a lumber yard anyway.

Again, that doesn't make a persuasive argument for it's usefulness as a truck lol.

I'm having analysis paralysis between these 2 models. I feel like having had trucks most of my life a truck bed is necessary, but I am worried about the 3.6 particularly the valvetrain issues they commonly seem to have.

am I blowing this out of proportion? the 22 I am looking at does come with a powertrain warranty to 100k so it technically should be good.

I test drove a 2.0t jlur that was great and had all the options I am looking for but the JT keeps creeping into my mind.

Between the two I'd be far more afraid of the 2.0T than the 3.6. There have been some issues with the pentastar, which as a percentage of engines fielded are thankfully infrequent. Much like the JL/JT as a whole, while not the peak of reliability, they like the 3.6 are probably more robust.

That the 2.0T matches the power of the 3.6 with much less displacement makes apparent which is more highly stressed. Add the complexity of a hybrid system and there are more points of failure and less margin for error. I'm partial to the V6 because I think it is a good engine that is more than adequate for the purpose. I have faith that worked hard the 3.6 will outlast the 2.0T.
