I'm having analysis paralysis between these 2 models. I feel like having had trucks most of my life a truck bed is necessary, but I am worried about the 3.6 particularly the valvetrain issues they commonly seem to have.

am I blowing this out of proportion? the 22 I am looking at does come with a powertrain warranty to 100k so it technically should be good.

I test drove a 2.0t jlur that was great and had all the options I am looking for but the JT keeps creeping into my mind.

Jeep re-engineered the Rockers several years earlier and that appears to resolved the valve train; btw our 36L in the 13 Wrangler has 116k miles and no valve train issues. Cannot provide an OP on the 2.0L as our JT has the 3.6L. Remember on Forums you do not read about the Satisfied or Never had a problem Posts.

I'll go against the grain of the entire forum probably and say, if this was my only truck, I wouldn't own it lol.

It's a terrible truck, when it comes to being a truck.

We bought it because it has a nicer ride than the Wranglers we were driving, and because when it comes time to do truck things, we have 7 other trucks lol.

If it was my vehicle only, I'd hands down prefer a Wrangler, and on top of that, liked the Bronco even more.

Interesting,

care to explain your thoughts. I feel like the Bronco is super expensive right now and having a 10r80 f150, I don't care for the transmission (there is a new tsb requiring cdf drum replacement)

The Everglades model we were looking at was within 1k of the Mojave we bought.

I'm 6'5 and I was more comfortable in every direction and every way in the Bronco. Not to mention it was faster, even with the base 2.3, the 2.7 blows my 3.6 Gladiator away.

It's definitely a light duty truck, but it is more useful than the other mid-sized trucks in my experience. Let's see you haul 14' lumber in a Colorado, or even a full size without a rack or a trailer.

I rented a JL Sahara with a 2 L turbo auto a couple years ago and traveled from Jacksonville Florida down to Miami for a week. The drive down and back were fine but while down in Miami, I actually felt the motor made the vehicle dangerous. While waiting to turn or merge across traffic, I found myself pushing the fuel pedal further and further down to get it to move, and with the delay, the power would kick in in all the sudden you have a car in front of you. So if you’re gonna do a lot of highway, and maybe some rural driving, I wouldn’t have as much problem with it but if you have any stop and go traffic or heavy traffic in a city environment, I would stay away from it like it has the plague. Just my $0.02…now worth $0.002

I have a '19 JLUR 2.0t eTorque and a '23 JTM 3.6. both serve their propose. What's the underlying need?

They the 2.0t eTorque has more off the line pep, but the 3.6 is a high end pep

I test drove a 23 willys diesel gladiator tonight and it made me wonder if I truly needed a rubicon for my purposes. Honestly keeping a truck bed is important to me and the gladiator has one of the more spacious back seats in the category for my forward facing kid seats.

Time to research 3.6 vs 3.0

this is more of a do I want a truck bed vs SUV question to me. The 3.6 is in every vehicle mopar offers...its pretty reliable and cheap/easy to work on. There will always be forums depicting a lemon.
Mostly, the 2.0 isn't offered in the gladiator though. All the reviews I have seen think its a great option.

Does a truck bed trump a 2.0 then? If the truck bed plays second fiddle to the drivetrian then it sounds like you want a JL with a 2.0.

I only have experience with the 3.6. I chose that over the appeal of a diesel because of its use in such a wide variety of vehicles. But I always knew I wanted a JT the drivetrain was secondary.

I had a 2.0T Willys JL but it was just not enough to tow my trailer. Plus, I did need a light duty truck after all so I traded the JL over for a JT.

The JT climbs hills, goes on trails and it hauls or tows what I need.

I did like the performance of the 2.0T engine with that mid-range turbo punch but the 3.6L is no slouch in performance compared to the turbo, IMHO.

We have a 20 Wrangler 2 door sport with 2.0 turbo and a 22 Gladiator with the 3.6 and a 21 Grand Cherokee with a 3.6 and that little 2 door will kill the Gladiator in any contest of power and get better mpg doing it. Its really a fun thing to drive (keep it under 80, gets a little squirrely) but honestly as a daily driver it's about as useful as a Mazda Miata. There are several 3.6's within our group of family and friends, no problems with any of them (other than the typical aux battery) and one has over 300,000 miles , it's in a charger.
