Do these do basically the same things? Or do i need both of them to xhange parameters in the PCM. Im assuming the SG extension ca le work with either unit.

IT's not "vs" because they are different tools in a sense.
One is hardware that allows it to make changes live to areas where there are no software choices and the other is pure software that can only make changes to the system where there are choices or changes allowed.

For parameters - either work. If you want to change tire size - either work. If you want to make changes to things that aren't allowed via software, then only the taser will work.

jscan is not a unit. It's software that runs on a phone or tablet. You make the changes, disconnect the OBD bluetooth adapter and no trace, no device is left on/in the vehicle.
Taser needs to be left in place for some things.

I don't have taser because everything I wanted to change could be handled by jscan - by SOFTWARE.
Taser is needed for things like disabling the ESS without pushing a button, turning off license plate lights when in reverse and certain other things.

One is no better than the other, just different purposes.

Thanks for the insight, so the JSCAN app w an OBD reader makes changes, where the dongle for Tazer stays in the port. The extension cables im seeing discussed are they needed to bypass a security path or are they strictly just make it easier to put the readers in. When my JT gets here i want to start making software mods right away

The SGW extension cables just make it easier to get to the cables to plug in the adapter harness to make the mods.

I decided to go with Jscan, OBD adapter and SGW adapter cable because it can do the mods it wanted.

The factory OBD port can only be used to for read only. The Security Gateway module keeps you from making modifications.

Just to add clarity, you only need to leave the tazer plugged in for what they call "live" changes. If you're changing tire size, regearing, installing or changing lights, etc, or making calibration changes, there's no need to leave it in.

For things like turncam, reverse light blanking, off-road hillhold, 2 high differential lock, winch mode, ESS memory, traction control memory, etc, you'd need to leave it plugged in. I leave mine plugged in because it saves me a few steps locking the diffs, plus I like the turn cam.

I would like to point out, if you have multiple Jeeps in your household like I do, Jscan is more economical. After purchasing the adapter cable and Bluetooth adapter, all that’s needed to use it on another Jeep is paying $20 for another VIN added to the app.
I’d have to buy a second Tazer in order to have one that works on both Jeeps.

I’m confused…

To use an OBD-II reader with JScan, you MUST use a Security Gateway bypass cable, something like:
AUGOCOM FCA 12+8 Universal Adapter Cable Adapter

Yes, you need the adapter cable to use Jscan to make changes, including clearing codes.

You can use the OBD reader without the bypass cable in the factory OBD II port but it can only read from that port.

I also purchased the Z Automotive extension cables to make the cable connections easier to reach under the dash.

This is true. I have a tazer for my JT, and am looking into something for our JK. I think JScan would have worked for both, across generations and all.

Indeed it will. Only difference being the Gateway cable is not needed for the JK.

I’ve used mine on my JT, the wife’s JLU, and daughters JKU. Used it on my JKU prior to buying my JT. All still for less than the price of 1 Tazer.

I have the JScan and was able to disable my ESS with it. Does anyone know if either of the devices being discussed will perform a cal on the front facing camera for the adaptive cruise control?

What is turn cam?

What is that? I have the front-facing camera and adaptive cruise control.
Turn cam just shows the reverse camera when the turn signal is on. It's nice for switching lanes with just a little less uncertainty (yes, my side mirrors are set up). I don't have the front camera. I'd like to add one one day though. And the tazer can help with that.

That is really cool! It seems like it would be factory.

Anybody know if Jscan can do the turn cam on?

No, because it's a "live" feature. It only works when the tazer is plugged in. The jscan (and tazer when unplugged) can only do things built into the car. They will change settings, and that's it. It can't add things that aren't programmed. You can add things that your specific vehicle doesn't have, but you can't add completely new things that no JT has with the jscan (or tazer, once again, if unplugged). If you need /want the live features, go tazer. If you just want to thange settings, JScan is much more economical.
