were you the only one in the vehicle? How was that rear passenger area where he hit you? That’s where a lot of kids ride in vehicles, no clue how someone could do that and drive away not knowing if they just injured someone’s kids.

Thank you. Three of four airbags went off. My two year old and wife were on the side that got hit. My five year old son on the driver side. Kids escaped without injury. My wife and I just airbag related injuries. The Jeep held strong where it should and crumpled where it should. I know if we had taken my wife's Subaru that night, the outcome could have been far more drastic.

Here are some pictures to see how it held up. First image shows a millisecond before impact. The interior shot taken from the backseat shows how things shifted in the inside (i.e. Passenger seat into center console, center console into driver, driver into pillar then bounced back).

I guess they hit the threshold for total at $32,647.15 in repairs and stopped counting. It happened 6 hours from where I live too so there was no way I was going to willingly let a shop six hours away fix it and have to go back and forth if there were problems.

No. I don't think they have the resources or care to. There is clearly a red-light camera that catches the plate in my dash cam vid. The driver clearly committed a minimal of three felonies in the process of the hit and run. The city of Chicago doesn't even consider red right violations moving violations.

I told the police I wanted the insurance info, something I'd get if the person had lawfully stopped or been disabled, but I can't get that either despite them likely having it. I don't want to get political, but the police seem overwhelmed with irrational calls to action to criticize literally everything they do. The focus is on attacking the police rather than protecting the public.

After numerous freedom of information act requests, I wrote the city letting them know that if they couldn't provide me safety, weren't going to utilize the infrastructure built to protect victims, and aren't going to provide lawful information to help protect me, my family, and my losses, that I would be carrying a firearm in the future to handle my own justice. Because they sure as hell can't. I don't blame the cops. I blame the governance.

I've tried giving them dash cam video, I narrowed down the year, make, and model of the truck. The unique features of the truck. THEY DON'T CARE. Won't even take the evidence.

Try contacting the non-emergency line. You'll either wait for 30 to 60 minutes with a hang up, or they'll send you to a voicemail system that isn't returned.

Contacted the DA stating I wanted to press charges because in this instance I can, they won't respond either.

Probably obvious from my writing that I'm not a big fan of the city of Chicago right now.

On another note, I did get a notification from CryptoStickers that I now have a window sticker early this morning.

I think that's my problem. I keep thinking had I not been lifted. Had I not had the rock rails. Had I taken my wife's Subaru. Had I been driving my Z4. All of those are potential death situations. The total disregard for life of the driver to me puts this person on the lowest level of life in my eyes. My argument to the police and city always was, forget gun crime for two seconds and realize that this guy could have killed an entire family, hit a school bus, plowed into a bunch of pedestrians, etc. That F-250 is just as dangerous as a firearm if not more so. But this guy is still on the road.

Awesome! Yours is definitely better than mine. I bought it two years ago, it's a 2003 2.5i 5 speed. Had about 80,000 on the clock. Has about 110,000 now. Needed something that was my own and that I didn't have to share with the kids lol. Got a great deal on it and have more than got my money's worth out of it already!

It's basically my "put-miles-on-it-during-the-summer beater" that as a Realtor, most people think is way more valuable than it is . So many people at gas stations have told me they'd trade me for much more valuable cars haha. I always tell them, thank you, but it's not a fair trade for you.

Bought my '07 Z4 M coupe a couple years ago with ~49k with cinnamon interior. Its definitely not stock but very happy the way it sits. I'm right with you with having a toy for myself. Currently she is garage queen due to life priorities. However, I can't imagine selling her.

One down side is the Z4m scrapes a bit being lowered. I'll go the opposite direction and lift the Gladiator. I'll post my JTRD specs once I confirm my order with Rob Trachtman.

I agree. I joke that I'm a man of opposites. One vehicle that is hard to get into because it is too low, and one that is hard to get into because it is too high. One that is built for the road, one built for off road. Mine also scrapes and it is stock lol. I think you'd be hard pressed to find one actually driven that doesn't have a scrape or two or with plastic stress marks haha. S2000 is also a great option Gbphoenix. I had looked at one of those too, but like a Jeep, they just hold their values too well and I didn't want to spend more than $5500 on my "fun" car. My purchase of the Z4 was an impulse purchase after I got chosen as DD for a golf scramble and realized how much I missed driving a manual after driving my buddy's 325i home!
