Keeping the fender seem clean.

I came across this in an old post and I thought it might help some one else out, it is really simple and works fantastic, putting trim lock .276” od rubber tube into the gap in between the fender and the body it helps keep it clean especially if like me you live in an area with a lot of trees (PNW) it also works around the cowling, I used a trim tool to push it into the seem, 15min job.

reminds me I bought some just for that job, but haven't installed that yet. Now I need to wait for this Alaskan winter to end (so.....June?) to give it a good wash and wax before I do this.

I did this on mine but I've noticed the fenders flex now and again and the rubber trim lock works itself out & has to be reapplied. I also live in the PNW and cedar & Fir needles are ruthless. As well as the sand they apply to the roads. Both fill these creases real quick so this application made a huge difference.

good to know I will keep an eye on it, I agree the long needle pines are the worst, I live over on the olympics side the port Townsend area we should hit the Belfair trails sometime.

I remember reading about this when the JLs first came out. There's not a ton about it (this is the most recently active thread on the subject). Has it been fixed, has it turned out not to be much of an issue, or is it so commonplace a fix that it's assumed?

I remember when I first read about it, I was reminded of the fender welts they used to use on cars with fenders. Same sort of rubber tube, but with a long flat piece coming off like a P. Holes and notches would be drilled/cut into the flat to align with fender bolts and turn corners. I don't have my truck yet, so I can't see how the fenders and cowl are assembled, but if they come apart even a little, just having it pinched might be enough to keep it in place as permanently as the fenders are bolted to the cowl.
