I am wondering what is the purpose of these small little sections located near the tail gate on the bed rail caps (see pics)? It has two nutinserts on the back interior side so I guess this might be meant for installing something on top of the bed rails. I don’t see anything similar on the cab side so not sure if this could be used for installing bed rack. Has anyone made use of these?

My BAK Revolver utilizes both sets of factory installed nutcerts in the bed.

Yes they are on both sides and yes you have to trim the plastic off.

I am waiting to get Truxedo ProX15 delivered soon, not sure if I will need to use these but good to know these mounting holes/nuts are there if I need to use for installing tonneau cover!

Yes. They are plastic knock outs. My trifold hard bed cover used the threaded holes behind them.
