My right rear axle and seal were replaced and I got the notice, similar to a lot of others, that my brakes needed to be replaced. Parts were not in stock so they were overnighted from another dealership and expecting to be complete tomorrow. However, they were not very specific as to which parts needed replacing due to damage from the leak, what are you guys seeing? Brakes and rotors only on the one side?

MFR: 10-20
MDH: 103102

Noticed axle was leaking, part ordered: 6/11
Parts arrived: 8/6
First available service, scheduled: 8/16
Completed: TBD
Not sure why they are replacing the rotor unless it's thoroughly soaked.
They can usually be cleaned and machined - unless it's the warranty procedure (or they do that to save money.)

You should never replace one rotor without making both have the same surface - don't put a new opposite a used one that's more polished from use, always machine both to match.

Pads should only be replaced per axle - never one side and not the other.

Yes, tens of thousands of "mechanics" have done one side and not the other for decades and swear it's ok. And it usually "works" but the fact is you have introduced different friction surfaces. If the pads on one side are not identical (same CoF, same materials, etc.) you can have troubles.

I will replace one rotor - but only if the customer allows me to machine both the new and the other original rotor on the other corner.
Pads - they always get pads on both sides. You can't buy pads for just one wheel anyway - unless MOPAR somehow furnishes them that way.

I noticed the same thing on my 2021 Mojave today. less than 3500 miles. Did you get it fixed yet? What was your outcome?
Im at just under 8000 miles on my 21 overland and will be having axle replaced soon for same issue

Well, had mine fixed before I went on vacation and it sat in my driveway for 10 days. Drove an hour after repair to check it and was dry, but when I returned a small drip on the bottom edge of the brake shield. Could this be residual from the repair? Looked like they cleaned it up well after repair, but I guess I need to drive it and keep checking it for a bit...

Well, that's what my dealer blamed my follow up leak on. They stated the parking brake shoes retained some of the fluid. I'm waiting on the new parking brake shoes to arrive. Once I go thru that repair I'll report back. Hopefully this is the end of this issue.

Wow, glad that didn't happen to me or I'd have chewed on them royally for not replacing ANY non-steel part that was lube soaked - especially anything associated with brakes, "parking" or otherwise.

Believe me It was tough not to do that?

My dealer didn’t seem to care about the safety concern when mentioning the shoe issue either.

Makes you also wonder if they should just swap the brake assembly at the same time as the axle, just for safety’s sake.

Differential lube on brakes should be an automatic replacement of pads - and you always replace pads in sets, not one wheel or corner. Since this is warranty - it would seem to me to be even more of a "no-brainer" because you don't have a customer trying to save a few bucks on brake pads saying "no, just clean them".

I think I’ll ask them to replace the brake pads on both rear sides when I take it back in.

Books and tests from Bendix, Kelsey-Hayes, Wagoner, my college texts, whatever, the rule was always "replace in complete sets".

Got the call that the parts are in. Appointment set for Thursday. I'll be sure to mention the brakes and if they don't have the brakes in stock I won't be leaving the truck. Even though I'll get a rental I just hate being out of "my" vehicle for any amount of time. I'll be sure to check up on their work and hopefully they do the right thing and clean ever little bit of oil they can. Already had an issue with them almost not ordering the axle because I don't have factory size tires. According to their paperwork I have "larger tires than factory" but they didn't put down the size, I have Mojave take offs so its not like I have some outrages tire size.

LOL - that's funny. They maybe don't realize that MOPAR dealers sell bigger tires and some of them sell JTs modified with bigger tires and different wheels?

Show them this 'dealer modified right after it came off the transport truck' JT for sale in the showroom of Dewey in Ankeny. I believe it's a 3" lift, bigger wheels, bigger tires, still has the window sticker on it.
Dealers sell them already modified with bigger tires.

The service manager did mention something about paying for a tire "upgrade" not exactly sure what he said but pretty much jeep wants your money just so you can "keep" your warranty.

I wonder - could he have been talking about programming in the tire diameter - which you have likely already done?
When I asked my dealer about it a couple of months after I bought my JT and when I was putting the Rubicon A/T take-offs on it, they said yeah, they could do it and would be happy to reset things but told me I'd be better off buying a device to do it myself.
