Are you getting one that will be better than the one you have now . Are there any new and better parts in it.
Went from the 21' model With 130,100 miles to a 24' with 6069miles. 24's dont have that bypass on the transmission heater .. mweh, the transmission was almost identical in price to what all the parts would have cost to fix current transmission . It wasn't worth the hassle .

Then once you get past the warranty ya just get a calibration tool do it yourself and forget it
…Or wait until you install an innocuous upgrade and they void your warranty, then never look back and let the modifications begin…

Stan, did it fail due to bad design, or just wear. I have only 28K on mine.
I was getting a TCM communication failure code . It is a purely computer/electrical component failure.
If it failed to go in R 3 times straight it would throw the code. It also had an extremely hard time deciding to go into 4th especially if just trying to cruise. So I always had to manually shift the first 4 gears letting off the throttle as I tapped it for 4th gear. Or else the thud would ring your bell. It got real bad around 90K and I been dealing with it for 40k and enough was enough. 2 times it literally got confused didn't know what to do after shifting in drive and started shifting all the way to 3rd. TCM was shot . That's what the code said ..

Each gear once in its slot never ever ever slipped not once. Not even reverse .

Sounds like mine is headed down the same path and will someday fail but I have no CEL or messages yet so dealer won't really touch it. Mine only does the bad stuff once when it's cold. After it's warm all is good.

Yep mine did that for 20k and was easy to live with, never threw a code till it stopped shifting into reverse . It takes 3 times consecutive before it will throw. At least thats what mine did.

So it eventually will not go into reverse at all. That could be a very bad situation. Will there be any warnings of that about to happen. Not really comfortable going on a trip with it now.

If I would place back in park sometimes turn it off and back on or run through all gear or drive forward then go to reverse it would. After failing 3 times . Would have to clear code then it would. My problem was much more advanced than yours. I literally did not have another vehicle to use 🙃. And saving up for what I needed and ordering it all etc.. let it get even worse.

And each situation may be different, depending on the exact location of the cause.

Just wonder, was it still on the factory fluid fill?
No, @ 89,000 I had it changed at the dealership. I was going to do it but I work 6 days a week and I also didn't have a big enough catch pan or a fluid extractor at the time. ( I sure do now) .
The 3 to 4 had been going on for 10k before the fluid change and the reverse started after that. Who knows maybe the dealership was responsible for it.
Maybe my getting stuck a couple times in open fields with nothing to winch to and using reverse to much to get out ?

Its all hard to say one thing I do know is I was out of warranty before any transmission stuff surfaced.

I also cant lay much blame in Jeeps lap( Chrysler fiat blah blah) I have driven this thing like it was straight out of road warrior the movie at times. Z

I have been rough and it has been good to me I think making it 130k is testament to its endurance.
I swear y'all I aint never drove my JTR easy Ever!! Well except down to the local store to get pizza.😂 can't flop that pizza in the floor Wifey would chop my .. well 😂 enough of that .. I have had that thing in every situation you can think of even near tipped it over , rear wheels off the ground jumped it a tiny bit slammed against the stops numerous times( bent steel rims on one occassion)
It isnt my thing to lay blame at someone's feet but my own .
I DROVE that thing.. I mean I D...R...O...V...E that thing. Its amazing the engine is noise free .after 130k I even drove it 65 miles to the house after water pump bearing went out and was weeping out the weep hole kept pouring 50/50 antifreeze in it till I made it .
