Am I right to assume that the residuals should be close to the same no matter where you live? My dealer said that the residual on a Rubicon lease was 70% on a 36 month lease.
Well, the banks set the residual values, so it's entirely possible that it could change a few percent here or there depending on where you are in the country.

Also, off-road models don't lease as well. They usually have lower residuals. This is true of Jeeps and Ram pickups also. I was surprised to find that out. But we went through them all at my dealer and the Rubicon, Rebel, etc. trims on trucks had lower retained values at 36-48 months.

They change them regionally. Might want to lease more in the Midwest so they'll have a special rate to get more on the road. Also it's not where you buy, but where it's registered that affects the residual.

You can't make blanket statements like this, wranglers have great residuals. They're one of the best at holding their value. Same thing with Toyota FJ Cruiser. Both off road vehicles.

We are still undecided on buy or lease for our LE, We don't want to put 20-30k down to get a normal car payment, we may keep it in the bank, lease and walk out the door for 400/month or so and then if we like the truck set up double payments like we did with Nissan, and then in a few years refinance it....
I'm confused on your statement. How do you expect to lease a LE for $400 a month without having a huge downpayment?

EDIT: well I guess I'm wrong, if your residual on a 4 year is 65% and you buy it for $57,000 your payment could be in the low $400s.

Yes, Wranglers and Gladiators have great residuals. But the off-road oriented models have the worst residuals in those vehicles which is what I said.

For example, a Ram 1500 Big Horn has a higher residual than a Ram 1500 Rebel. And a Wrangler Sport S has a higher residual than a Wrangler Rubicon.

It's not a blanket statement, it's a fact based upon bank data.

Assuming a LE is $60,000, and it has a residual of 70%, that means it'll be worth $42,000 at the end of lease. So if you do a 48 month lease, you're paying on $18,000 over 4 years, plus taxes and fees. That puts you right on $400 a month with nothing down, and around $325 a month with $3k down.

Ahhh, you said models, I think you meant TRIM LEVEL.

You forgot about interest charges. You don't get to use the bank's 60k for free.

Sales price, money factor, residual/months matter so much in these calculations. If one changes by a little bit, you better run your numbers again.

Yeah, if you buy it for $60,000 you're looking at upper $500s according to this.
Okay, so lets say an LE cost $62,000 MSRP, and invoice is 95.31% of MSRP, and you take a 5% discount off that cuz you got an awesome dealer. That's a purchase price of $56,137. with 48 months, 10,000 miles per year 66% residual and a money factor of only 0.0015 which is close to an APR of 3.6% which is doubtful, with a doc fee of ONLY $75 you could get your payment down to $488.

Now if you're talking BASE STOCK AS A ROCK RUBICON, then yes perhaps only $400 per month.

Taking these same numbers, what if I decide I want to keep the gladiator? What would it cost me? How do I get the numbers to work in my favor vs financing to begin with?
