So I saw this on one of the local dealer websites for everyone's viewing pleasure. Never seen a required minimum credit score this high:

WOW! Mine use to be that high, but not anymore.

Here in Michigan, I had two dealers run quotes for me on the same truck.

The first dealer quoted a Sport S optioned out to around $46,000. I stated that I wanted to get my payment to around $300/month and was willing to put money down, and we threw together some numbers (between 4K-6K to do so). They then took my information and promised to run a quote on a draft order, based on my specs, and see what would come back financing-wise.

Dealer 1: $8,600 down to get the payment down to $350-400 per month.

The second dealer quoted the exact same truck, now slightly cheaper at around $44,000 - slightly cheaper than Dealer 1 two weeks prior.

Dealer 2: The salesman stated that to get my payment down to $300/month, I would need to put down $3,200 or slightly more, and that they could work with me price-wise to maybe get it down even lower.

My own math put me at about $5,000 down for a payment of $300/month, so this is good news. I asked if they were serious about the down payment amount, and he assured me they could make it work, or at least come close.

The difference in price between dealers is staggering.

it's a really confusing situation right now up here.

Well it's confusing because you are approaching it the wrong way.

First start with Selling Price, money factor, residuals, and $0 down. You should be able to get a lease calculator and match the number. Then you can start plugging in what you need to get the payment where you want it.

And by selling price I mean a negotiated price just like you would do on a purchase. There are dealers on this site doing 7% below invoice. That will have a very big impact on your lease payment because the residual is based on MSRP.

Has anyone been able to get a 5-7% below invoice price on a lease? I am in California and trying to find someone ... anyone... who will lease at or under invoice. I think a tough part may be that the out of state people like Mac Haik said that they can't lease out of state to me in Ca. Thoughts? Has anyone gone through this? I have no problem flying anywhere and then driving it back out if I can find a proper deal.

Now that affiliate pricing doesn't work about 3-5% under invoice is your best you can do. I'm leasing out of state from @spenchey, talk to him.

The price shouldn't matter if your leasing or not.

i don't think location should matter either. Either way you're buying the vehicle. One is through a leasing company, one is through a lending company/or cash.

I live in PA and talked with a dealer in Ohio who would not lease to me because I don't live in Ohio.

Right, which is why I said that if you KNOW that you're going to keep the vehicle for 15, 20, 30 years then it makes better sense to "buy" it. But, how many people keep a vehicle until it literally falls apart? Very very few. And, leasing is NOT like renting. When you rent, your payments don't go toward ownership of anything. When you lease a vehicle, every payment you make does advance the total principle downward so that you are getting closer to ownership with each month that goes by.
I keep my vehicles until they fall apart. Once my vehicle is paid off, I keep driving it. I will normally buy another vehicle and keep it in the garage and rarely drive it. I will drive the one that's paid off until it falls apart then start driving the one that is almost paid off and do the same thing over again. I fix my own vehicles so repairs don't bother me. Like I said to each his own. I buy and run them as long as I can.

This is a good question that people are bringing up. Has anyone been able to sign a lease with an out-of-state dealer?

I’m also in CA and my dealer is in NC. I’d like to lease if I can but not sure if it’s possible. Will call him today to find out.

Is it foolish to buy and make payments on a vehicle you rarely drive?

I would just keep a beater around in case your main vehicle needs some downtime.

I mean i guess if you've got enough money, your "beater" could be a 3-4 year old vehicle. I just figured if you're a "drive it into the ground" type of person you might have that car for 20 years, so you could have a 20 year old car and a 15 year old car at the same time.

@spenchey said it can be done, but we have not actually inked a deal cuz the pre-spec hasn't showed up yet.

I also live in CA and have had no luck finding a good lease deal on the Rubicon Gladiator. Through people on this forum, I've found good discounts below invoice to purchase, but the payment is still to high. Hopefully someone shows a good way to get a 60k Gladiator @ a Lease pymnt under $600 w/ very little down.
