This is the mother of the one I thought about getting back on summer... Damn I looked fat, recovery from emergency surgery and having five holes cut in my gut. Not Rosy the bird dog. Both of them were my coffee buddies when I was recovering. My friends Rottweiler of course jumped up on me when I got there almost ripped me open. He's just out of frame.

Yeah I did as usual, it was a few years back. When I went into surgery the surgeon didn't expect me to make it through the surgery. The hospital had my sister on the phone during my surgery to let her know when I died. Less than 12 hours after it I got up out of the bed to use the bathroom with multiple IV's still in me. That shocked the #### out of the nurse that was walking in as I came out of the bathroom. Fortunately it seems that I don't giving up and heal up fairly quick.

The pride of cat around need me to feed them. 🫣 Two of them want to be house cats. Someone decided to get re-home the Siamese tomcat I had, the problem with him was he liked anyone so someone snagged him up.

R.I.P Tuvak - born March 2011,, adopted with his brother, Koko in July 2011.
Died November 16th, 2025 - the day before my wife's birthday.
He had thyroid issues, reacted BADLY to the meds so had to go through the radioactive iodine treatment a couple of years back. Was doing well but they said he had a slight heart murmur and very slightly enlarged heart due to the stress of the thyroid overactivity.
He was on an even keel, then I noted his breathing was too fast for a cat. Took him in and the stress of that visit threw him into heart failure. X-rays said parts of his lungs had no air and fluid was built up around his heart and in his lungs. If we hadn't made "the decision" then and there, I believe he'd have been gone in hours. So it was horrible seeing him struggle and fight to live those last few minutes. It was a really tough scene.
"Tuvak, the wonder cat", liked to play fetch, was totally attached to "his humans", but loved people and would greet anyone at the door. If they stood still too long, he'd launch up onto their shoulder and drape over a shoulder.

He also loved to play what my wife called "bat the rat" - toy mice on a shelf high up on our bedroom wall. He'd get up there and if you ignored him, a toy mouse or other toy would go whizzing by your head. If you tossed it back, he'd smack it before it landed, right back at you. He would systematically line the toys up at the edge of the shelf and smack them at us until we played by tossing them back, only to have him smack them out of the air right back at us. He tipped his head a bit and got a really serious look on his face while playing. A Tonkinese, he grew attached to us and got really nervous if we were away too long. We'd come home to find him and Pickle looking out for us, and we'd find Pickle's stuffed toy just inside the door, waiting for us. Pickle would bring that up and look for us if he couldn't find us, then drop it by the door. Tuvak waited looking out the window or deck door for us to come back.

Tuvak wasn't a lap cat - he insisted on laying on my chest or shoulder, or curled up in my arm like a baby. Put him down on my lap and he'd crawl right back up so his head was close to mine and lay.

Tuvak would literally grab my hand, claws hooked in, and pull my hand to his face and them proceed to kick my arm. If I pulled away, he pulled my hand tighter to his face and kicked even harder.

One other thing Tuvak did was to carry his toy rats from the front room where most of their toys were, into the bathroom and arrange them around their feeder.
We'd be sitting quietly watching TV and Tuvak would enter the room, move a rat into position so he could grip it around the chest, suffocating it, then quietly walk into the bathroom with it and place it by their food.
After he ran out of rats to carry, he'd carry his brother's toys which were pipe cleaners coiled up with a small bell on them. Eventually, he started lining up the rats and other toys in front of the refrigerator - when he realized some food came from there, too.
We'd watch as he moved the rats around until he could grip their chest, squeeze, and then as he walked away we'd say - there goes another rat into the bathroom......
We kept a small container of a dozen or so new rats as after a while of him killing them over and over, their chest would be a mess and ripped open with stuffing coming out.
(these pics must be from at least 5 years ago because we had the bathroom totally gutted, all new everything, new floor, ceiling, new oak trim and all - wow, that old floor dates things

My Lily dog. She absolutely loves getting in and going for drives. She's getting old, and so I plan on taking her overlanding with me to Palo Duro Canyon in about a month. We'll try to stop by a few state parks on the way as well.

Bill, it's definitely a hard time especially losing two on such close time. I can relate on how attached you can get with animals. This was Amber the cat that "adopted me" when I was going through a rough time. A shelter abandoned twice I found out. She had been abused by the prior person(s). One thing that she definitely didn't like any females species didn't matter. 🤔🤔 When I was sleeping she would be in my armpit head on my shoulder. Would be waiting for me when I got home, and would wake me up if something was prowling around or walking to the house.

I thought I was going to have another one kinda like her.

My wife made a comment after Tuvak passed, and again after Pickle.
She said "after Lucky and Koko are gone, no more - it's just too damned hard when they die - you get so attached to them, have so much fun and then they are gone"
This place is so empty and quiet now, even with two remaining as they have their own beds and hangouts they stay in a lot of the time.

My wife said the same thing on the last two dogs that aged out with us. After awhile, the quiet and lack of routine taking care of something got to her and soften that stance.

A priest, a preacher and a rabbi were discussing when life begins.

The priest said, "We believe that life begins at the moment of conception", and looked at the preacher.

The preacher said, "Genesis says that life began when the first breath of air was drawn", and they both look at the rabbi.

The rabbi says, "We believe that life begins when the children go to college and the dog dies".

--------------------------------------------------------

After Spunky passed away a few years ago I thought finally I am free of all obligations, I can do anything I want and go anywhere I want for as long as I want. That lasted about two months.

Now I have three dogs.
