Just picked up my 21 JTR in Sting-grey over the weekend and looking to throw a bed rack and tent but the thing is I want it to be level with the roof and flush with the end of the bed. Curious on what everyone is running and open to inputs on Bed racks and Tents.
(I want to keep it low profile because I park in a garage and want to leave room for a lift and larger tires down the road)

Delete if needed.

I don't have any picture to post right now, but I have the Rebel Off Road full-height rack with the table mount. I really like it. The rack is extremely solid. I have a Tepui Hybox hard shell tent. I keep it mounted during the spring and summer. I took it off last fall.

I got a big discount on the Tepui tent because Tepui was bought out by Yakima and they were closing out anything with the Tepui logo on it. Overall, I really like the tent. I've slept in it during some serious, torrential downpours. The tent did not leak at all. The rain fly things worked really well.

Although, after a long rain, the canvas does become soaked which leads to wicking inside. So, don't put your pillow or clothes up against the side of the tent. I applied a good-quality, Kiwi tent sealer. It helped a little, but the canvas still gets soaked.

Tent weighs 85 lbs so I can throw it in the garage when I'm done, and the rack has quick release feet so I can get the rack off in about 5min.

Question from an Overlanding noob. Do you guys take your tents off the rack when not camping?
Only for necessity, like when we know we have to go to a parking garage. At the UW hospital it's no tent or a 1/2 mile+ walk to oversized parking. My wife is disabled, so that's a no-go from the get-go.

I have noticed zero change in gas mileage.

Mine is not a rack but I love it. I wanted a canopy because of the dust that you deal with with a rack. This Alu-Cab does a great job.

There is a rsi smart cap and deck drawer listed locally for a good deal(5700cad, sounds like a good deal to me, all input welcome), have you run into any issues with having a tent on top? Feel top heavy on trails?

Void space where? You mean between the tent and the bed?
Between the rack posts on each side, I’m new the the whole scene so I’m not sure if there are panels available ?

Actually wanted the RSI. That was my 1st choice but they were hard to come by. The Alu-Cab is good though. I really like it. No issues with having the tent on top except your height. And one of the things I like about it is that it is high enough to stand underneath it. So I have an awning I can put up on the drivers side but on the passenger side where the tent opens up has covering as well. So that is where I put my kitchen when camping.

Current setup. I will be changing this up some and adding to it before heading west for an Overland trip out west in the end of May.

Currently it is a Diamondback cover with 2 frontrunner cross bars installed on it, with a Roam tent. Soon I'll be switching out the 2 bars to their full slimline rack. Then I'll add to that: traction boards, awning, table and carrier.

Ah yeah you can buy sidebars for it. It is nice being able to reach into the bed from the sides though.

Honestly love it. It's paid for itself in savings from camp sites and hotels on road trips. I ground camped my whole life so I have pretty simple needs and don't need anything fancy like LED lights or gas struts. It was exactly what my wife and I needed to leave town quick, find a place to crash for the night, get up early and go hike. It lives up to its name too, the two of us can uninstall it in about 5-10min so I don't look like a goober driving around downtown with a RTT.

Awesome man thanks. how tight of a squeeze do you think it would be for two people and a dog in the tent?

Wow. These roof top tents have really peeked my interest. Funny, I took off into the woods last year with my jeep, an old EMS 1 person tent, and my fishing kayak. I haven't had peacefulness like that in over a decade. So, my research starts. :)

James Baroud XXL. Have to put on the high rack, hangs over the bed too far otherwise. I am going to lower (cut) the rack a few inches though.

What’s the wind noise like in the tent? I like that they are low profile but in raincouver never know conditions I’m gonna be out in
High wind was actually the number one reason I bought this tent. Wind noise while in the tent is minimal. Since the Maggiolina cranks up with a worn gear, you can get the fabric nice and taught so there's no flapping. Its like sleeping on a sailboat in high winds (read:60+ mph) because of how flexy the jeep suspension is. The fiberglass roof makes quite a bit of noise with raindrops, but its never leaked a drop inside and I've spend 8 straight days following a tropical storm in it, changing camp every day. When you fold it up wet and relocate, the water finds it way through the zippers and onto the mattress tho, which is a big design flaw IMO.

Here's my setup. Bak Revolver bed cover w/T-slots, OVS Freedom adjustable rack, 23 Zero 62 Walkabout RTT with Annex.
Purchased but not installed: 23 Zero Peregrine 180 R Awning with walls. I went with this so I'd have the option of mounting if off the back covering the tailgate or off the side if that works better.
