I’m curious to hear what size air tank you end up fitting.
I'm not a fabricator/I don't know how to weld, so I'm at the mercy of off-the-shelf mounting solutions and as you may or not be aware, while mounting solutions for compressors are plenty, it's not the case for tanks.

I ordered the 3 gallon first (its coming in today at some point). Once the cradle arrives, It should be easy to tell if something larger can fit or not.

That being said, I had a great talk with someone at Maximus 3. I pointed out that there are virtually no mounting solutions for air tanks and that their platform has a very unique niche. Unfortunately, it was designed around a much smaller tank and two air compressors. it seems that with some simple modifications, you could easily fit a much larger tank (if you already have a compressor mounted elsewhere). Hopefully I inspired a spark, they seemed very receptive.

Ill post on here once I get the materials in. But for now, Maximus 3 and I agree the largest tank that it can hold without modifications should be a 3 gallon tank.

It's been a learning experience for sure. Not all the parts are in yet but I'm building it out as I go. it's been a fun exercise it what's possible.

A larger tank won't fit under the mounting bracket on the right without modifications to the cradle.

I have three options. (No, cleaning the garage is not one of the options)
  1. make the modifications, get a larger thank
  2. put a smaller tank on the right
  3. leave open to mount something else in the future. (No idea what could go here).
What would you do?

I don’t think another pound of compressed air will make much difference on the trail what about a second mount with a second tank will that fit?

I did think about that. A smaller tank would probably fit just fine.

I finally finished today. I had a few challenges.

1. Obviously the cradle wasn't meant to mount another tank outside the Viair 2.5-gallon tank so making the larger tank took some modifications. Then after learning that the new holes that I drilled didn't allow for the mount to bolt on, I had to drill more... and again more. I ended up drilling 3 different sets of holes trying to get it to all fit together. But in the end, I did manage to make it all fit.

2. Mounting the cradle itself was another story. it's clear that Maximus 3 has undergone several iterations of this cradle and let's just say the instructions haven't exactly caught up. I made it work the best I could using some common sense, but the driveshaft gets in the way if you go in the order that they present so I put the cradle/mount together first then broke my wrist in 3 places to get the mount bolted to the cross member of the truck bed.

what I'm left with is a 3-gallon tank secured under my bed to compliment my on-board air.

I also added electric solenoid valve so I can purge the tank from inside the cab when I'm done (although this isn't hooked up just yet since I ran out of Aux buttons). Amazon.com: U.S. Solid 1/4" Stainless Steel Electric Solenoid Valve 12VDC Normally Closed VITON : Industrial & Scientific

Next, I'll try running some air tools to see if there is a difference.

Where do you plan on mounting it?
I mounted it exactly where the instructions make you mount it. under the bed alongside the drive shaft between the muffler and the transfer case.

I want to add a tank to my onboard air supply. my question is, what hose should I be using to run from the air compressor to the tank? is there a guide I can follow? Google brings more confusion than answers.
After receiving my Kraken system…I say build your own. The Kraken uses 3/8 OD fittings and line.

So when are you whipping out the write up, and the tutorial video?
Serious question.

dude, where were you a week ago?????

I'm happy with what I built but I see I could have saved some serious money now. the braided hoses aren't cheap.

joking aside, I did come across some of these, but I was concerned about the proximity to the exhaust. in some places its only inches away. I'm using the braided hoses and even those are wrapped in thermal insulation.

I used a thermal sleeve I picked up from O’Reilly auto parts on a length of the power wires running from the battery to the dual ARB from there it crosses over the frame to the drain hole. I actually tucked it on top of the frame where it runs beside the DPF.

The neat thing about this stuff is that it actually has a fairly high heat rating AND it can be plumbed in amongst braided.

When I got the Kraken kit I beat myself up a bit. I wanted a single line to be able to use to help other folks if needed or to used for other purposes so that’s when I found the components of the system on line were very inexpensive. After thinking about it further, it was still a good buy. They have time and expense in the compressor mounting plate, remote mounting plate and additional wiring etc. Now, if I want to move the compressor to behind the rear seat, run dedicated lines to the front or rear of the vehicle or anything else they will be easy to add down the line.

Now if someone looses a bead and is in a precarious position, I can put together a line from a safe distance.

…and regarding the late notice…yeah well sorry. Unfortunately I’m way more busy than I want to be with work…lol.

Get some dot push in fittings and some dot hose. Good enough to use when stopping semi trucks. Flexible abrasion resistant and you can cut it to any length yourself.
