Anyone tested the idea out? Have a Sport S ordered for the wife that’s going to be a Scrambler tribute. Her childhood Scrambler was red with the white fiberglass top. Ordered the 3 piece black top instead of the smooth top ($4k difference). Dealer has a guy that’ll do the Line-X for $400, in white, so it’ll be a close match to the original idea. Already committed to it, guessing that it will also reduce the road noise and heat levels (so didn’t do the headliner). Anyone else got experience with this?

Any reason you wouldn’t just paint it? Will line-x hold its color well?

Whatever path you choose, I’d love to see the finished product. And I imagine a white top must be cooler in hot weather.

Paint shop didn’t think the plastic would hold the color well (probably flake off). That and the Line-X won’t get scratched up or need waxed.

I don’t know much about white Line-X, but as long as it doesn’t stain or yellow, it seems like a winner.

I also don’t know what it weighs, but if you’re lifting the top off yourself, the extra weight may be a consideration.

Ok, so google says lining a truck bed usually weighs 40-70 lbs. I imagine a roof is somewhere on the low end of that. Just something to consider.

Yeah, not a problem for me. It’s for the wife though… we’ll work it out though.

Can't wait to see and hear how it works out. Contemplating this as well.

In my experience bedliner, any of them does well on plastic for a few years and then it will start flaking and looking like crap. I know of a few guys who done their JK tops with a couple different ones including at least 2 I know had a line-X shop do theirs. It looked great for a couple years and then when it starts coming off it really looks bad. Also it's a lot harder to get off and fix and redo with bedliner than just painting it. I know a few shops around my way want guarantee the work if they are spraying it on plastic. It's really made for metal, aluminum, steel, applications like that.

AEV has the option to paint the inside of the roof...

I think it will look cool and very unique. I do wonder what sort of warranty they will offer you on it.

I also wonder if adding a liner would cause it to not seal correctly and make it more likely to leak? I guess it depends a bit on the texture and if they are careful not to overdo it on the edges.

I was hoping someone had experience with it, leaking was my big concern.

Once we it gets delivered I'll go take some pictures to record the cosmetics. I'll start a thread for that. I've already got the OEM style SCRAMBLER hood decals, the AMC Jeep and CJ-8 Emblems are lined up. Getting a simple CJ-8 rollbar fabbed and painted after we get it. Once the look is right on those then it'll get the factory 2" and the rims/tires swapped to match.

Has anyone done this? My hardtop has a lot of trail scratches, product will cover most but overall it’s rough. Tried to touch it up with hardtop touch up spray; made it worse..
