I have it in my mind that you should not link two D ring shackles together (ie: winch line terminates to a prolink with a d ring on it and you connect to a d ring on the other vehicle) yet i have not been able to find anything that supports this.

Am I just wrong? In my mind it would be OK to go D ring - soft shacke - d ring, but not steel to steel.

thank you!

It is allowed to attach two shackles together.

They would go bow to bow, or pins opposite each other, whichever you understand more clearly.

In heavy rigging it is possible to have multiple shackles connected, depending on how far you have to drift a load.

You should not mix sizes though, that way your maximum lift/pull is whatever one shackle can handle.

thanks! Ive seen people use the wrong end of a d ring and i quickly vacate. They are usually the people who also do recovery with trailer balls...

Since you brought up shackles, I prefer to use Crosby shackles, some of the 4x4 places carry them for recovery.

It has nothing to do with being American made and everything to do with they are rated and certified for actual rigging and have the safety factor built in. This is all certified by a third party.

Some of these no name shackles I see have no way to verify they have been tested.
