Per your political screen name, and the fact that you don’t probably own one, I’ll ignore your made up ramblings.
That's kind of shitty to say. Pro Civil rights are "politcal"?

So you own one. My bad. But you consider 2a to not be political? Hypocrisy. Civil rights? You’re insane. But you were taken by the grill cover “solution”., so I’m not sure why I’d be surprised.

Iam just a spectator interested in the topic of this thread. 2a is a basic human right. Don't try to interject politics into it especially on this forum.

January 12, 2023 — The Jeep Wrangler 4xe fuel and oil refresh mode (FORM) feature has caused a class action lawsuit that alleges 2021 Wrangler hybrids lose the ability to run in electric-only mode.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a plug-in hybrid vehicle equipped with a 17-kilowatt hour, 96-cell lithium-ion battery pack that Fiat Chrysler claims, “is capable of up to 21 miles of nearly silent, zero-emission, electric-only propulsion.”

Chrysler marketed the 2021 Wrangler hybrid as capable of running on gasoline or electricity.

But the class action lawsuit asserts the 2021 Jeep Wrangler hybrids are defective because the Jeeps improperly and frequently enter "fuel and oil refresh mode."

The alleged problem makes driving in electric mode impossible, and fuel and oil refresh mode is allegedly more likely to occur in cold weather.

According to the plaintiff, a Jeep Wrangler 4xe driver may not be able to use electric-only mode for months.

Fiat Chrysler has allegedly failed to offer suitable repairs or replacements for free, and Wrangler hybrid owners allegedly aren't offered reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe manual says the vehicle will enter FORM to maintain engine lubrication properties, “if the system detects a stale fuel or aged oil condition after a long period without combustion engine operation.”

The message means a driver cannot use electric power only.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe owner's manual also says FORM is used:

"'To prevent engine and/or fuel system damage due to stale fuel, as well as maintaining internal engine lubrication, and acknowledges the necessity of FORM because, 'it is possible to operate this vehicle for extended periods of time without running the gas engine[.]'”
But the class action alleges other conditions can trigger fuel and oil refresh mode, such as "[f]requent short trips at low ambient temperature conditions are more likely to trigger the lubrication based mode.”

The manual also says to get out of FORM: “The vehicle will automatically exit the Fuel and Oil Refresh Mode when conditions have been satisfied.

However, the lawsuit alleges FCA doesn't say what those conditions are.

The plaintiff says Chrysler even altered the language of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe owner's manual to acknowledge once the Jeep enters the FORM cycle, hours of gasoline-only operation is needed before the driver could use electric-only operability.

In addition, the plaintiff says this is a huge change from the 2021 Wrangler 4xe manual that says electric-only operation could return after only “a period of up to 20 minutes when fully warm whenever the vehicle is operational.”

And the class action lawsuit further alleges the 2022 Wrangler 4xe manual also differs by saying freezing temperatures result in a “significantly longer” period of gasoline-powered operation before electric-only operation becomes available.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe class action lawsuit was filed by New Jersey plaintiff Jesse Crowell who purchased a new 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe in May 2021.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe fuel and oil refresh mode lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware: Jesse Crowell v. FCA US LLC.

The plaintiff is represented by deLeeuw Law, LLC, Migliaccio & Rathod LLP, Gustafson Gluek PLLC, and Scott Hirsch Law Group, PLLC.

Everything I've seen says the 4xe is by FAR the best selling PEV in America. So I guess they are doing something right.
I've seen several articles stating that over the last month or so.

That's weird - I wonder what the wheelbase of the JLU - a Wrangler 4 door 4xe is, compared to a Grand Cherokee Limited?
The GC has a tow rating of 6,200 pounds. Heck, that beats my Gladiator by 200 pounds! And the payload is better, too, if I am remembering correctly.
Marketing. And very soft springs on JL/JTs

Yeah, law suits don't generally mean crap to me - that's the 3rd time it was interjected in here.
Look at other similar suits over other stuff and often it's a bunch suing who have no idea what they are actually suing over.
One example is the 3.6 cam issue where they are claiming that it's existed since 2012 and nothing was done and it's the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. What a hoot - the issues from pre-2016 were resolved with better designed rollers, and current failures have nothing to do with follower rollers.
They are claiming it's all the same issue for the last 10 years. Sorry, it's not.
Attorney's love class action suits. But they generally are clueless regarding what they are suing about. Angry people yelling SUE! SUE! SUE! at the top of their keyboards.
Not saying there aren't issues, but 3 times the suit was brought up as if that's a good reason to never buy a 4xe. Apparently many thousands disagree.

IMO, it's not political. It's our constitution. Law of the land. That's all I'll say about it other than I guess being pro-constitution is problematic these days.

Wow, asking for personal first-hand experience and we get 3 posts of a law suit (which are so often crap) and fights over the law of the land.

Pic above -
Looks like the Gladiator sat while the Wrangler was recently driven.
(I could say I was trained at tracking but that would be a lie)

Exactly.

It sounds like the 4xe suffers from colder temps. I wonder how much storing in an attached garage could help with electric only use.

I had one (2021 Sahara 4xe) for 5 days as a loaner while they were sorting out my leaking rear window. I liked it. It took about 10 hours to fully charge the battery on 110v. I did drive it on battery only for craps and giggles and it was pretty cool. They are pretty expensive though. The window sticker was in the glove box and was 60K and the one I drove had none of the safety packages (blind spot, ACC, etc)

We looked at the RAV4 prime, but I refuse to pay a 10k surcharge. We have a Volvo xc60 recharge. It’s fantastic. Definitely the best of both worlds.
Wow, 10 grand. We did pay, or my wife paid, 5 grand. They wanted 7.5, but she said she'd only pay 5 and Pueblo Toyota said yes. And I got 6% off MSRP on my Gladiator, but it's her money. Still I reap the benefits. We also looked at the Volvo.

While the Rav4 Prime essentially has the same issues (stale fuel), it allows the owner to determine when the ICE should be used. This is, in part, due to ethanol at 10% in most states that will cause corrosion of the fuel system, at least that's Toyota's claim. I expect that it's true at least for those that plug-in and use EV only most of the time. I assume this would be the case with the 4xe. In the Rav4 you can select EV only, HV/EV or HV at any time. I would expect Jeep has the same options. I'll be watching to see how this lawsuit plays out, and if it has any influence on other car makers. Still, batteries are not as efficient in the cold anyway.

It has the same options, but doesn’t allow them to be used. We’ve had two Chevy Volts over the years that required the engine to be run at least once per year, or briefly if it was so cold that it was necessary for more efficient cabin heat. Other than below zero temps, I never once had them force me to not use electric.
