Only thing I have to say is do not buy a used one that has already been assigned to another vehicle. You want a virgin FOB that is then programmed to your vehicle. Even the so called "New" aftermarket FOB's sold on Amazon and Ebay can be a pig in a poke.

Dealer is the safe bet or a independent key smith that will not charge you for their aftermarket FOB until it gets programmed.

Make sure they remove the lost FOB from the assign key registry when they assign the new one. They will need the original spare FOB to figure that out.

They have a locksmith van that has some arrangement with Sam's Club. They are regularly parked near the front entrance here. I would go check with someone like them before buying anything.

I bought a used Gladiator with one key. To get a second, I called a local jeep dealer and provided proof of ownership and the vin #. A couple weeks later they invited me into the dealership to again provide proof of ownership. They programmed the key and I was on my way. Less than $300 total. The jeep has proximity entry. To me, that wasn't bad at all.

I bought a used Gladiator that came with only one key fob. I ordered through the dealership. They use the VIN number to get exact FOB required and it does have the Jeep logo. Also, it is the correct one to have the key laser cut to operate all of the locks in the Jeep. As stated above, they will need one of the original key FOBS that came with the Jeep. The total cost was $282.00 for programming and cutting the key.

Thanks for this detailed response. buying and having an aftermarket fob that looks just like a Jeep Fob is going to run me about $100 less. So I now have a decision to make.

I feel your pain. I was in the same situation, but I had incentive for the original FOB. My wife bought me two key FOB covers before I bought the Jeep. She knew I was going to come back with it before I knew it, lol. We did not know it only came with one key FOB. I needed the original replacement with the Jeep logo. lol

"You can explore aftermarket options for replacement keys, which can often be more affordable. However, it's crucial to check if the key needs to be programmed for your specific vehicle.A locksmith can often help with programming aftermarket keys, but it's essential to verify if they have the necessary equipment and expertise for your car's make and model. So, it's a good idea to ask the locksmith about their experience with your car brand. If you're interested in locksmith-related information, you might want to find out how to start your own locksmith business. It could provide you with valuable insights, especially if you're considering a career in locksmithing."
