Remember the YJ use to have that annoying yellow light to tell you when to shift? My XJ has it as well, but its broke because in 3 years since buying it on Craiglist I have only seen it once. I have not driven a JL but I assume that is gone now.Completely agreed. I've had high-end PDK, DSG, DCT, ABC123, etc. transmissions, and have the ZF 8 speed in our Durango R/T. Other than the Durango (which is only fun in straight line) I always feel there's something missing from the experience when the car shifts on its own. My YJ was manual shift and I look forward to getting back into a Jeep with a stick again.
I do remember that little light. So easy to ignore...Remember the YJ use to have that annoying yellow light to tell you when to shift? My XJ has it as well, but its broke because in 3 years since buying it on Craiglist I have only seen it once. I have not driven a JL but I assume that is gone now.

That was messed up.Maybe I meant Rick Rolling

Maybe, but the other way around. I am 71, have driven auto latter part of my life only because it is more or less a necessity with most cars and trucks not offering manual. But nearly everyone of my contemporaries learned stick early on. Vehicles with stick I have owned or driven at work: '56 Chevy, '47 International KB5, '65 Chevy 2-ton truck, '43 Dodge WC-63 6x6, '71 Mercedes 280SL, '74 Chevy Vega, '79 Ford Courier, '85 Ford Escort, '82 Nissan pickup, '88 Ford F150.Seems to me more age related than anything else (no offense intended). I see the same with others around your age. I’m 15 yrs younger but can’t see myself without a manual truck or car even in 20 yrs.
GM does a horrible job of programming the auto's to go pedal to brain interface...double downshifts on hills where only one is needed, hunting etc. One of my long long standing GM-ism's that i can't believe they still haven't fired the engineers responsible for all that set up. I could go on about their front seat comfort and about 4-5 more gm-ism's that still surprise me exist with all the repeated complaints and even write-ups in the magazine comparisons etc.my colorado is auto & if i knew how often it was going to change gear for no good reason i would have bought the manual like most of my vehicles

I am in the middle on this one. I love my 5 speed Miata. There is just something fun about downshifting and being able to pick what gear you will have when you are sliding thru a corner. Paddle shifters just do not do it for me. But for a daily driver I don't want a clutch for stop and go traffic. I had a stick on a CJ5 and an 87 Trooper but at 52 there will be no offroad activity I will get into where the Manual will be significantly better than a modern automatic. What your really missing getting the manual is the ability to not work hard in stop and go traffic. I can't imagine with how good the auto transmissions are today why anyone would want a manual.
(And i learned to drive a manual when I was 11 and I'm near 60 now. My first new Jeep CJ7 I ordered and purchased from a dealer in 1977 I ordered a standard ....)
But you couldn't give me a standard transmission in any vehicle now......Even Ferrari's gone auto....
