Matts Ugly Truck

What was your method for painting these? 200 grit sandpaper, primer, then paint? I've read a lot things on here, but trying to get a direct method from someone who has done it.

I just picked up my Gladiator on Wednesday and this was one of the first things on my to-do list after I ordered.

I cant claim that I am an expert here, but this is what I did:

1. Take out the half dozen rivet/clip things in the back.
2. One bolt that was 10mm (I think)
3. Used a sanding block - I am 99% sure its 220 grit but I threw away the label already
4. Spray with cleaner
5. Spray with paint and then after a few hours matte clear coat.

Tonights project is painting the underside of the side steps logo orange. I also have white bed liner for the top side of the steps, but I am 99% sure I am not going to do it after all. It only took about 15 minutes to realize how hard the rims will be to keep clean, I think I want my steps black not white.

EDIT2: They didnt send me all the proper hardware, so this is as far as I can get until I get more nuts and bolts to secure the rails.

I love orange, my boss doesn't...love your orange accents...think I can slip those in on my build.

Ive been meaning to get the bedliner done for a couple weeks now so that I could put in the mat and toolboxes, but I needed to clear out my garage so they got installed out of order. I still need to get the bedliner done.

And yes, I do realize the bed mat is upside down. It had a ridiculous curl in it, so I installed it this way so that it can flatten; then I will flip.

Left mine out in the sun for the day upside down. Now it's flat.

I am doing a similar trim touch-up but I am using Plasti Dip "Blaze" Orange.

The longhorns had a claim on orange way before the mojave edition was made. Plus, I have a different sticker for the hood

Alright here comes the post where I piss a bunch of people off with my "Ugly Truck" theme. Before you judge to harshly - I did this as a joke to troll my kids who hate the way the Gladiator looks. I love it and an opportunity to tease them couldnt be passed up. The "Ugly Truck" part will be replaced with "Scrambler" eventually. The decals were made by @pixeldecals, who did a wonderful job.

Like the build thus far. And love the name. Considering you have the lift, my personal opinion is you need more meat on your tires, but that may be a personal decision on your part. Love the white/orange Scrambler look though

I mean - its pretty ugly.. but like a bulldog is ugly. Its also awesome.
