I've had a few problems with mice. They built a nest in the glove box of my F150 and somehow got in the bell housing and built a nest in the pressure plate. I ended up having to replace the clutch and pressure plate. They also chewed holes in the fuel lines going to the injectors on my John Deere

So I find this ... has anyone put a metal screen on the inlet to the engine air filter ? I put a screen on the cabin air filter inlet on my last truck. No more field mice in the cabin air fan.

If you do - make sure it's metal screen. They'll eat right through the nylon screen used these days and use it for bedding.
Metal screen, not so much....... but then, I've had mice chew clean through plastic drain grate to get into my garage, too.

I had the same problem under the hood of my Patriot parked outside.

mixed a spray bottle of about 40 drops of peppermint essential oil’s and water. Sprayed it down occasionally and no more rodents.

Mint is one of those things that's actually been proven - like you noted you need to refresh it on occasion but who cares, it smells good!
Mice will indeed avoid it. I think there's a test or two on youtube.

No more mouse sightings. But I have a new problem i am beginning to hate all chipmunks, squirrels and rodents.

I have the same exact issue with my 2021 rubie, I drive it every day. My girlfriends brand new 21 JL is the same way. I’m starting to think they came from the factory
