Ok so please be peaceful in this thread! I'm a new Jeeper and really just trying to do my due diligence on research. I want opinions on milage and I know it can be a touchy subject. I just bought my first new Jeep, a JTR in October of 2023.

So my question is, how high of mileage on the 3.6L should be concerning? I found a JLUS 2018 3.6L with 155k miles on it for a deal. The Jeep would be for my daughter at 16 which isn't far off. I can pull a car fax report if everyone thinks thats wise, or maybe request it from the seller. Is 155k miles too high? I don't know the maintenance of this Jeep, so I can't answer those questions. It being a 2018 with high mileage, what else should I check over if it's okay?

I know a lot of it is going to be opinion and subjective. But I'm here to learn and understand. Also you're not gonna hurt my feelings lol. THANKS!

155k isn't too many if it has been properly maintained, and not used hard. THAT is the variable that you need to know.

A carfax report would be mandatory, as well as having a competent mechanic, with jeep experience, do a thorough inspection of the vehicle.

Depending on how good the deal was, and with a great mechanic giving a clean bill of health, I wouldn’t be that worried. Even if a major mechanical problem arises, you likely spent a low amount on it, so probably an ok trade off.

It's just a plain Sport for roughly $20k - I'd imagine most of it is highway since it's so high, but I'm speculating.

I was hoping you’d say they were asking less. You can get new 2023 sports for like 35+ I think. I’m not sure I’d spend 20 on an almost 6 year old with 155k. But that’s me.

Yeah, I get it. Kids don't exactly take care of things at 16 lol. I'm sure I could get them down lower since thats just the sticker price. I also found a JTS with 13k for $32k too.. But I'm not sure my daughter could drive a Gladiator.

I donā€˜t worry much about mileage…..these engines can go 300,000 plus if maintained…and worse case just put a new engine in if needed…..just a machine anything can be fixed …unless your worried about value

If I was really worried about value I wouldn't give it to a 16 y/o to drive thats never driven!. I did also just mention that I also found a JTS with 13k miles for $32k too. But not sure she'll be that great parking/driving it.

First year model alone is 50/50 good or bad right off the line. With 155k miles and for $20k, I would pass and buy her a new VW Jetta. She will thank you later.

I am sure someone at school will be spoiled with a new Jeep she can ride in. You can always let her borrow yours every now and then ?.

I’d look for a 1980 Pontiac LeMans. Solid ride. Ask me how my 16 year old self knows. Don’t skimp. Spend the extra on tan vinyl and metallic green.

Front bench seat or no? That makes all the difference!

Front bench, am radio, and the rear door windows didn’t even have cranks. They were fixed. Fancy.

it’s funny you’d mention that! My first car was was a 1988 Pontiac LeMans, white with manual trans. It was alright for a couple years till I hydroplaned it into a concrete drainage ditch lol.

down south? You can get older for cheaper with similar miles. I've had good luck with high mileage relatively young vehicles. Highway miles are better than city any day. If they have oil change records you're going to be a fairly happy camper I think.

But you do have to think about the other part. Do you really want your 16 year old daughter getting jeep girl attention????

I put it in a ditch once not paying attention. Tuning radio. 16 years old. Oops. No damage.
