Against popular belief, you can pry the back of the hood scoop cover and open the hood for true air ventilation. No need to buy a spare or cut it out. Yes, it is glued and requires a little patience. ***NOTE: I am leaving the hood insulation out.***

I chose to go with an LED light bar behind the scoop. A 10” multi-color LED light bar off eBay & (2) 400# fishing magnets later = no cutting or drilling on the Javè.

Just thought I would share. Fun little project. Only $63 to get’er done.

I was thinking of this also how much heat does the bar generate

So I had a very similar idea, glad other Mojave’s have done it, ended up using a 10” Baja designs OnX, and bonded studs to secure it…. Let’s just say it took some massaging of the mounts to make it all fit.

I want to do the same basic thing that you did. Did you remove the vent to cut off the back, or just leave it attached. I removed the 2 screws, but the "clips" have me baffled. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

those clips are not meant to come off, so they have to be permanently removed. if you are careful about it you can take it apart cleanly enough to reassemble with adhesive if you change your mind.

The scoop was a pain to remove. I was lucky not to break those tabs on the clip. But the final result was worth it.

nothing really major to write up. I first pulled back the engine insulation and grabbed a pry tool and pushed it a little aggressively on all 3 tabs in order for it to unhook off the hood (Be patient, if it feels like it will break don’t worry it won’t. Just bend the middle part of the tabs that’s clamping the scoop to the hood back enough to go behind the hood in order for it to release)

Once the scoop is released, I drilled about a 1/2 inch hole in all three locations in order for the Oracle 3 Amber Lights to fit through. I had another major issue separating the 2 half’s of the scoop to fit the lights in so I used a pry tool again to separate as much as I could to drop the lights into the scoop and run the wires out the hole I drilled. Once everything was in place I had to use a little super glue to join one side of the half’s since I broke the little round clip that holds the 2 half’s together.

After that everything goes back the way it came off and run the wires to where ever you want power. I wired directly to my factory AUX 4 switch

Thank you all for the information!
So, I did it. I was able to remove the scoop and I pried the plastic back off. I purchased a 14" 8000 Lumins Single Row Light Bar from Amazon for about $19.00. I measured where the mounting would be and trimmed the end pieces off the back side. I purchased a Plastic Welding Kit from Harbor Freight for around $16.00. I "welded" the corners back onto the screen. I added some of the mesh included in the kit from Harbor Freight for some additional strength/support. I screwed the light "L" mounts into the plastic corners. I trimmed the insulation on the hood and ran the wiring under it to the battery. I used the 2 bolt tabs and added additional "arms" to the light for a little extra support. It got wired into the lightbar in my bumper switch, so only 1 switch to deal with. I am very happy with the way it turned out. It definitely produces additional light when offroading.

This was a fun little project. I used the quadratec prerunner kit, which comes with a loom that connects directly into the factory running light wiring. The angles and clearances make it a little bit fiddly to get things right, but it is a nice, harmless mod.

Since you are limited on the actual adjustment, can you point it where you need it?

in short, no not really. I can’t point it down as much as I would like. With the flood lenses it doesn’t really matter and still lights up the ground better than my factory head lights. Although It is set at the perfect angle to blind the shit out of people that cut me off.

Any issues with the hood insulation being gone? Why is it there in the first place?

Hood Insulator likely serves a dual role here, decreasing engine noise and protecting the paint from increased heat from the engine bay.
