What are the concerns of opening the hood scoop but leaving the insulation? Obviously cutting a hole in it for the scoop.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've been researching making the hood scoop functional. I've seen one post where someone said it causes a lot of noise in the cab. Anyone here experienced that?

Had a Mohave before my current Rubi and back then I considered doing this. Reasons I decided not to....

1. Noise. Which I believed would be caused by the need to remove the hood blanket. But that was only my fear. I have no experience running without a blanket.

2. Water. Obviously, air's not the only thing being rammed through that scoop at highway speeds during a rainstorm. I know most connections under the hood are water tight - but I've been through enough deep water crossings in my life to know that....."water ALWAYS finds a way". And when (not if) it does....you've got trouble like you wouldn't wish on your ex brother-in-law.

So I never did it.

HOWEVER....reading this thread....I do like the "Night Rider" style led bar behind it. Wonder if one could fab up a sheetmetal box to mount behind the led bar and to close off the opening behind it?

I am planning on sometime opening my Mojave hood scoop, mostly to put air in and the proper way is to get the pieces of the wrangler 392 hood system which is called the “Hydro-Guide” that feeds air under the hood and to the air intake removing water through ports directed at rear of engine. I would fab a close off plate where the air intake piece is , but Jeep designed it to control water and has flaps that when not moving they close and force more air through radiator. Benny at Allmoparparts parts priced all the parts up for me it was over $400. Insulation stays for most of hood and for the water getting under the hood, there is a big hole in front called a grille letting water through under pressure swirling it with a fan and blasting everything until it evaporates!….jack

Sort of getting a belly skid first and might be nice to find a 392 hood, another member has got lucky. This option is $729!…..Jack

You should seal up that radiator and cover the bottom of the engine from frame rail to frame rail. You know water gets in the engine bay of every vehicle ever in a rainstorm right?
