i have only driven the raptor so far because the diesel is not available yet.
You should go and see if a Diesel JL is on the lots yet. Will give you and idea of the power and also drive a V6 Gladiator to get a feel for the handling. Make sure to do a freeway test and get it up to 70 MPH, as Freeway and around town are a lot different.

I think if you do that and compare the two you'll be able to make a decision pretty easy.

I think the first thing you need to ask yourself is where you're going to be going to overland. Multiple people have said how wide the Raptor is.. So imagine how that will be on a narrow trail/ path, I think that Raptors are great but if you can't git it down the trail or you're having to drive it at 2 mph because of the size then is it worth it?

these are what I have been offroading and overlanding in for the last 8 years. I daily drive a BMW.
here in northern colorado and southern wyoming I tend to do a lot of interstate miles getting around and we frequently see 60mph winds so stability and highway ride matter alot to me; almost as much as trail manners.
leaning toward gladiator rubi diesel on 37 or 40 inch tires but for about 30 dollars a month more I can get a raptor

The Raptor is going to be more stable in those winds no question.

I have bought a new Raptor every year since they first came out, here in Cali. i bought the second one sold from Galpin Ford, Jay Leno bought the first. I have now for the first time in almost a decade been without a Raptor and to be honest i do not miss the Raptor. In your case i do believe the Raptor is your best choice.

Dude, you need to relax when wheeling. You're looking at that like it's an obstacle. It's barely higher than a street curb.

I've bought 12 Fords in the last 15 years including 4 SVT vehicles and 2 Ford Performance vehicles in 2018 alone. I can tell you after owning my 2018 Raptor I will NEVER buy another EcoBoost vehicle. Between oil consumption, cam phaser issues, and electronical issues it's been in the shop over 8 times including being towed in. They are on their 4th change in the cam phaser repair and from what it appears it's just a poor design that they will never truly fix. I know 5 guys around me with Gen 2s and 3 of them have also had the cam phaser issue. Love the truck when it runs but not worth the headache.
