That looks pretty good, are they needed in a diesel? I am from Wisconsin and thinking of ordering a diesel.

Looks better in real life than in these pictures, but it's not pretty either way lol.

This is my first diesel and first winter with it so I am not an expert and maybe some other guys can weigh in on their experience with the jeep diesel / other small modern diesels. I don't think there is an explicit/mechanical need for one in modern trucks. I just didn't want to find that I needed one in the middle of a week+ in the -30s or something.

It can help your truck heat up faster and retain heat, especially if you Jeep is parked outside overnight vs in a garage, or if you have a short commute etc.

From my understanding the whole diesel front cover thing stems from diesels being very efficient at cooling and in the winter the diesels struggle(d) to stay warm and in the past some trucks literally would have no heat unless you blocked the cold air from hitting the radiator on the colder days.

It's use is likely only <0 no huge benefit otherwise.

Did you get the top part too? It could be useful to those with a short commute in the winter

No,

I didn't really get it to protect the grill/hood per se. Just for the extra warmth if needed. I think that if you were going to get the top part it would match though.

I think this is the top part:

Maybe this is old news, but first time buying from mopar website and the pictures and descriptions are off, best bet is to look at the instruction manual to see what you are actually getting lol.

What I bought was literally just the cold cover bottom half:

I have always been wary of the old front protectors, especially in the winter. Get a lot of salt and road grim trapped in the cotton back.

Back in the day, people just shoved a piece of cardboard down in front of the radiator. ha. At the end of the winter they took it out.

City dweller northerners know the deal  I will do the exact same thing IF needed but so far it is not needed. This thing heats up quickly and doesn't lose heat idling in freezing weather

We just had a -24 celsius day few days back, no issues. My old 04’ and 08’ ford f350’s were terrible for not warming up and struggled to stay warm. Non issue with my JT. Auto idle up is a nice feature.

We have had night time lows of -30C to -40C here for a week. Daytime highs -24C. I had to put cardboard over the 3 center grill openings to maintain 95C coolant temp.
I will buy a front cover, or, “winter front” as they are known here.
Am investigating FIA out of Winnipeg who claim to sell one with a summer bug screen For less that $125.00.

I just went online to Mopar Canada to order one these covers. It was discounted to $156.00 BUT, shipping was going to be $94.00.
Going to see what the dealer wants for one.

My Ram Ecodiesel had a much larger engine compartment and the front cover seemed to make a difference. I'm driving the JT ecodiesel and it seems to have much better heat up for some reason (no cover). I use my driveway to the gate (5 minute drive) as the comparison. Jeep is heating much faster. Just my truck to Jeep comparison. Not sure how many people actually have had both side to side.

I had a 2016 Ram Eco-diesel, and I found that cooling system to be more stable. I find the Gladiator has overall higher EO temps; and the coolant runs colder. This is especially true in the winter.
The Ram would run consistently in all kinds of weather maintaining 100 C on the coolant and the Gladiator won’t go over 95 C.
