I've got some 40x13.5r17 Cooper STT Pros en route for my Gladiator. Problem is nobody around here seems to have the equipment capable of mounting or more likely balancing the tires.

Just wondering if any of you folks have had luck getting a shop to mount/balance 40s or if at this point I'm stuck with bead balancing?

I've got beadlocks on my TJ and I mount them up myself and I've run beads in the past and the results are less than ideal in my opinion. But for the JT I was really hoping to just throw on the 40s have have them balanced by a local shop. The JT is the long distance overland rig of the stable and smooth running down the highway is the priority.

What do you folks running 40s and bigger do? Are you all just doing it at home and throwing in beads?

All the chain shops like discount tire can’t do it, I reached out to all the chain places in San Diego and all said the same thing. I went to a small independently owned tire shop and they were able to get them mounted and balanced with zero issues.

First two just got delivered. Been calling around since I posted this and found a local off road shop, Zeus Off Road in Burnsville MN, that's going to do it. I had them re-gear my TJ probably 6 years ago and that's the last time I've ever taken a vehicle anywhere for work (aside from the recall hpfp.) Totally forgot about them.

Still curious on what most people end up doing cause if I was struggling to figure it out I'm sure other are as well. I remember having to call all around to even get 35s mounted 20 years ago.

Anything over 37s you are in a specialty shop. In my area there are 4 good shops that specialize in offroad trucks. For 40s I hope you have addressed suspension and steering upgrades. It's more than just mount balance and go. Most suggest trusses for the axles at 40s. I would want the mojave cast iron knuckles going that large. And an upgraded steering stabilizer

Diesel's got the iron knuckles. I'm split on throwing upgrades at it or waiting and doing 60s. Hydro assist and shafts and truss are more affordable than everybody says. I've been doing this a while and built several jeeps and your concerns are 100% accurate and I'm aware of the weak points. Truly appreciate the input. This is my first foray into 40s though! I would love some actual specs on UD60s but I've been hunting for a while and can't find any hard numbers.

Made HEAVY 37s (pitbulls on hutchinsons) last for years of wheeling on stock TJ axles and eventually built them and went back down to 35s to properly hammer on it. The JT is the overland pig.

I mounted 38s on beadlocks and had discount balance them down in Rochester with no issues. Maybe they wouldnt be able to do 40s... I've worked with Zeus Offroad before and they do a good job.

They wont touch mounting them but they'll warranty the tires, balance, and rotate. Interested to hear what your thoughts on 40s are. I take the JT cross country and like the 38s but am building with the ability to go up to 40s. Just not sure I want that large of a tire on a DD.
