I've lived my whole life beside a rural railroad crossing that has no crossing gates. It would astound the common-sensible person how often people punch it across while the flashers are on, train horn a'blazing. Never understood why people think they have to be in such a hurry to risk it all like that.

Glad you and your JT came out of that safe & sound.
Why people do that...my take:
  1. Not paying attention
  2. Simpleton that likely shouldn't be driving at all
  3. Over-confident, self-centered idiot that doesn't feel the need to wait like everyone else

I'm a railfan. I enjoy watching trains and sometimes take pictures and videos of them. Today I spent the late morning at my usual spot watching freight trains go by. This crossing only has crossbucks and a stop sign. Unfortunately this particular guy decided not to stop. My Jeep was literally INCHES from getting hit with something! Somehow there's not a scratch on it. I'm also fine, and the driver is fine.

Glad it’s fine. That other driver is an idiot. I always stay back about 6 feet from the crossing, gates or no gates incase something happens. This is why.

HOLY COW!
That is too close for comfort when an idiot ignores a freight train.
