Hey folks I wanted to start this thread again in another light as the last one got out of hand and was deleted by the moderators.

Yesterday I was rushing out of the car wash and had tossed my floor mats in quickly not realizing the design of them allows the mats to catch the fuel pedal, and the stiffness of them can apply pressure to the pedal.

Pay attention, don’t be like me.

The Jeep lurched forward about 15’ before I reacted with brake and popping into N.

FYI, I’m an engineer and also do all my own mechanic work. I’m most certainly not a moron (most days), but yesterday made a basic mistake that could have hurt someone.

I did take a quick look at the floor mat design of the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, and Subaru Forrester (as I have those 3 cars available to inspect) and the floor mats have a fuel pedal notch, that is clearly designed to prevent interference. (Their off-road all weather mats)

Interference with a brake pedal is obviously much safer than with a fuel pedal.

I do think the mats could be better designed, but just a shout out don’t make the mistake I did as you could really hurt someone.

I did the same thing but I was luckily not in gear when I started the engine. Just dealt with a high rev condition.

Something to watch out for and easily overlooked.
