It's really the tiny stock tires on the tucked in rims with the massive wheel wells. Some 1 3/4" spacers with some true 33+ make a world of difference. I firmly believe the stock tires/rims were a CAFE product to maximize mpg much like stop/start versus what the engineers designed around (35s).

Those stock Sports with those tiny tires are the worst. My Overland looked awful also and it had 32.2” tires stock, which is .5” smaller than a stock Rubicon. My tires were all I saw when I looked at it. It’s my DD and I drive a lot so I couldn’t go too crazy, but 285/70/18s look soooo much better than the stock 255/70/18s.

The funny thing is a lot of people think mine looks stock. I get it, that’s how it should look. 285s, rubicon suspension, blacked out emblems, no bleachers, and matching F/R tint is all I’ve done.

I swear mine was designed to drive better on my E load 285/70/18s than my 255/70/18 street tires. It drives so much better now. Everyone who’s driven it agrees.

FWIW I think they look weird with anything less than a 37”
JLU needs at least a 35”
My wife thinks all Jeeps are ugly.

My mother always said if you don’t have nothing nice to say
Man, there are a couple other threads that could use this advice haha

At first i was all in on upgrades, but the stock look has grown on me so much ive been on a bit of a revert to oem streak lately. I draw the line at the lift. Thats my only bone with stock is it feels the same ride height as my wife's old grand Cherokee

I have a sport S that's mostly stock and I agree with you- not the best looking truck. Ironically, all of my non-jeep friends seem to like how it looks. They say it reminds them, dimensionally, of the trucks from 20 years go.

Here's a fun one...

1) Would you rather have a stock Colorado or stock Ranger compared to a stock Gladiator?

#2) Is a stock Ranger or a stock Colorado better looking then a stock Gladiator? I don't look but it may be and you all might all chime in. All base model 4WD with 4 doors??

Stock Mojave’s or Rubicons look fine. I hated and still loved my stock Sport Max Tow but going into the purchase, I knew mods were going on very soon. I don’t knock on stock Gladiators because not everyone wants to mod theirs.

From when I first got it to now. Changed a lot of parts!

Rangers are ugly as shit regardless of how you dress them up in my opinion. Looks like a lifted Escape. Both the Colorado and the Ranger have pathetic interior design as well. Straight up rental car vibes, hard pass.

The Tacoma is the only midsize truck that looks better stock depending on trim. And even that’s arguable.

Edit: I just saw “all base model” in your post. Gladiator > Tacoma > Colorado > Ranger

MY issue is this. We are going to use our sport s max tow to tow a 6000 lb travel trailer around the country off the beaten path for dispersed camping and boondocking. Mods, larger tires, metal bumpers and winches add weight and affect the towing I want to do. I drool on the mods, but really need as much of the stock sport s as possible for the towing and cargo, etc.

So how does one avoid their gladiator from looking like a total stock turd but keep the purpose we have it for? It cannot negatively affect the towing.

Suggestions welcome.

I think the 31s are a little out of proportion, but anything bigger does the look well enough with the lift/level to match. Especially to non-Jeep people, which I was one until a few months ago.

Of course I'm biased, eventually I'll put 33s on when the stock Willys mt's are due for replacement. And the Teraflex level came in the mail, so we'll see how that looks first.
