So my 23 Mojave is garage kept and spends a lot of time on a Noco Genius 10. When hooking up the Noco yesterday I noticed the bracket (for lack of proper term) on the neg terminal seems to be changing color and chipping away. The terminals look clean so I’m not sure what’s happening.

maybe I’m hooking up noco wrong? Here are some pics any suggestions are much appreciated. I already reached out to Benny at All mopar to see if he could get me just that part.

Yes, you are hooking up the charger wrong. On the negative side you need to attach the charger to the post at the top of the IBS and not directly to the negative terminal.

The IBS monitors what is happening to the battery as far as charging/discharging goes. If you connect the charger directly to the negative terminal it is called 'blind' charging since the IBS will not 'see' the charging of the battery.

@jac04

thank you
I’ve ordered a new battery sensor from all Mopar since that is the only way to get the bracket. I probably won’t change it until it gets worse. Hopefully I did not do too much damage to the batteries.

thanks again I appreciate it

The issue is that the battery/batteries are more fully charged than the IBS thinks they are.

My recommendation would be to:
1) disconnect the negative terminals & separate them so that each battery is completely isolated.
2) unplug the IBS for about 30 minutes to re-set it.
3) use the noco charger to fully charge each battery independently of the other. You can do this while the IBS is unplugged & re-setting itself.
4) hook everything back up.

The IBS will then default to a starting point (80% state Of Charge IIRC), and then start making adjustments as you use the vehicle.

An easy answer is to charge up batteries through the 7-pin trailer connector.
Just make sure you disconnect plug before starting the JT

Thank you all for your help. I disconnected the ibs and charged both batteries independently. Everything seems to be working as it should. This forum is great and I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I am really curious what the IBS does differently if you charged the battery directly to the post. It doesn't seem all that "intelligent" if it will overcharge a fully charged battery just because it didn't "see" it being charged. It should be able to determine whether it is fully charged or not. And what would it be doing to cause the terminal to corrode like that?

So I just received the new bracket and sensor, and it is definitely a beefier bracket, so now I’m thinking it wasn’t my mistaken charging style but maybe Jeep realized it needed to be more stout.
Thanks again for the help, here is a pic of the new part.

A battery with a fault vent or a leak around the post can cause corrosion.

The IBS will eventually catch up, but, in the meantime................. There's more to determining battery charge and the BCM has a history of all going in, all coming out, and other info sent to it by the IBS.

You'd have to either read a couple dozen forum posts or pages from the tech info............ so a bit of trust is involved.
Maybe if we get enough of us together at my shop some day, we can all go over these things together, question and answer, and 2 or 3 members can bring their technical instruments along and we can spend a day on these things, have a bbq and a few beers, or maybe the beers would be best before talking about Jeep batteries? Hmmmm.............

(only half kidding - it's too damned bad we're all so spread out - there's at least a dozen forum members it would be fun to get together for just BS sessions, meet and so on.)
