New engine after coolant leak

Well this is not a good start for my first Jeep truck. Bought the truck on Halloween and have less than 1000 miles on the odometer. Check engine light came on as I was pulling out of the driveway and I immediately pulled it back in the garage. Checked the codes and had a P0302. I had it towed to the dealership and they just told me that there was coolant in cylinder 2 and they would be replacing the engine. Unfortunately the engines are on backorder with no ETA. Does anyone have any recent experience with having an engine replace under warranty to get an idea of how long of a wait I am looking at?

I can't answer your question on engine replacement but yea, that is unfortunate.

I picked my Mojave up last month. 1,500 miles so far and no issues. This is my third PUG engine. No issues with the first two either.

Sorry and i hope everything quickly works out for you. Makes me think to upgrade those OEM parts like that ASAP.

Had an engine replaced on a compass back in 2019 (was a 2018 model). Same story, it was not available. Jeep provided a loaner and the engine showed up after a week or so. Took a couple days for the job. Sadly the vehicle was never the same after that and was fraught with electrical gremlins. An engine replacement is, basically, a very invasive job. Every electrical connector has to be unplugged and plugged back in. Not to mention everything that has to be removed and reinstalled (along with all the pigtails attached to whatever it is).

Maybe you'll have good luck, but be prepared for the worst.

I’d suggest you call all your dealerships around you and beyond and ask their parts department if they have an engine in the back parts warehouse. I’ve found transmissions for me and others this way. Dealerships don’t post what they have in stock.

I didn't personally call, but talked to the dealership today and they said they called all the dealership around and none were available.

Although I would love a hemi, I'm not willing to pay out the cost for it. Especially when this one had less than 1k miles and warranty will cover the cost.
